BridgeportHeather
What are your ideas of possible slogans the Sox could use somewhere this season? I was thinking a real cool slogan for the Sox would be: "Hey MLB... :

cwsox
If there have been any gay posts, I have missed them. I sure am f***ing sick and damned tired of people using the word gay as a negative. Heather, as for a slogan for this 2003: f*** you MLB, it's our turn.

Wong & Owens
On the topic of slogans, and marketing the Sox in general, I cannot believe how poorly a job the Sox marketing squad have done over the past 6-7 years. It boggles my mind that they keep thinking that the way to draw fans is to target families and children, especially with corny catch-phrases and events that most kids I know would find dorky, for lack of a better term. Given the large number of night games, the large number of weeknight games, and the cost of attending a baseball game, most families can't, and don't attend more than 2-3 games a year, tops. Being that all these factors are for the most part fixed, gearing promos towards families isn't going to increase attendance, just entice the families to pick those particular dates to use for their 2-3 games per season. The main reason the Cubs draw so many fans anymore is due to the fact that a large number of single, affluent people live within 5 miles of Wrigley Field. These are the people that can attend 10-15 games a year, and spend extra money on beer, souvenirs, etc. I can't understand why the Sox marketing team doesn't attempt to lure some of the people in that area down to 35th St. They can still take the 'L', it's not that long of a ride. Promoting the area around Comiskey as having fun nightlife wouldn't hurt either, but that's going to require some help from the business owners -- far from a guarantee. Sure, you want kids at games, and you want adults to bring their families, and view a Sox game as a fun night out. But the fact is, a guy who lives in Orland Park who gets off work at say 5:30 barely has enough time to round up the troops and make it down in time for a 7:05 game. It's a huge pain in the ass, and he won't attempt it more than a few times a year, most likely on a weekend day game. You have a 40,000+seat stadium to fill every game, and you're not going to do it by expecting a family of four to make it out on a Wednesday night more than a couple times a year. You can do it by coaxing the 20-something ad agency reps who live in Lincoln Park to hop on the Red Line and come south. Thanks for letting me vent. Spiff
My point was not that you should take the word god out of your post. In fact, it doesn't really bother me one way or another, because I know you didn't mean God himself. (Though even if you did mean God himself it prolly wouldn't bother me then either.) The point is the same for "god damned" and "gay", both words have taken on different meanings. It is largely a generation thing too, I think. People in your parents' generation may have taken issue at you saying god damned, but nowadays it is not really noticed. I am guessing that WSFAN did not mean anything to do with homosexuality but we have had this discussion many times before.

Guest hotsoxchick1
i have to agree with zach on this one.. no more slogans... f*** them... they dont win us any ball games anyhow.........sox should take the silent route this year.. espically with the whizzzz kids we have in promotions department.... as for the God and gay thing.... granted it may be a generation gap thing.. but cant we find a different word for gay......if in fact you intend it to be gay as in a non homosexual way then cant we just say happy or silly or something stupid along those lines.. do we really have to use gay??? as for the God word... i would just prefer you say f*** and leave Gods name out of it ok......thanks........... cwsox
The use of the word gay to mean lame or stupid is always going to be offensive and basic respect for other people means you don't use it that way. Further, if the idea of coming up with slogans is not someone's idea of fun, there is no need to post that - just leave it alone, uncommented on. Some people like to do that, some don't. So why bash on Heather because she wanted to do that? The opinion that Heather's idea was lame - offensively lasbeled gay - never needed to be said - not every thought is worth posting, and why go out of one's way to insult Heather's idea? Basic respect for other people is always cool. Sure you can post anyting you want, but why go out of one's way to put down some else? Just move in and start a new thread that you think is better instead of cut down someone else.

cwsox
LuvSox, thank you for your kind words. And glad you have found this board too! You ask a fair question but I am at work right now and don't have the time to answer you fully let alone give even an outline of my interpretation of what Em is about, and his lyrics, but in short, no, I don't have that problem with his stuff. I think a lot of things were overblown by the media and he has addressed those issues in his own way, especially in 8 Mile. The scene that takes place at the lunch wagon and the buddy who works a couple of Jimmy Rabbit's hours so that Rabbit can go battle are his answers. I live in Michigan where we get all Em news all the time since he is a local boy, and I have studied his lyrics (that is a funny sounding statement, like he is an academic subject... ) and I am very comfortable with where he is at on this issue. And yes, I am a very big fan of his and I had to settle a lot of lyrics issues before I could be one. And I think what is saying, and what the media says he says, are two very different things. And he put on a great show in the Rosemont last summer - Thanks again for your good words and hope to see a lot of posts from you here! cwsox
Yeah I still post there a couple times a day but you are right, it is very negative and it gets distressing over and over, all the s***. The posters here are far more knowledgable and 97.36% less s***. RPS was right all along... this is the place to post. But I still have a lot of friends there, made a lot of friends there, and don't want to lose touch with them either -
