BridgeportHeather
Ozzie says that he's got a lot of faith in his players...But just how far should that faith go, especially when dealing with Billy Botch? He should really consider other options rather than allowing us to possibly snatch a loss from the jaws of a victory, like we almost did today. Botch has a BAD track record coming in from last season, and he hasn't looked the greatest in his latest outings...I think someone should tell Ozzie the TRUE story about Botch...He seems to be having TOO much faith in the guy. NUKE_CLEVELAND
I wonder if Billy Botch will still be smiling and cracking jokes when he's on a Greyhound bound for Birmingham.

UM...how bout we say Koch hasn't looked good in his last outing...singular. That was teh first bad outing he has had this year. Now don't get me wrong, he flat out sucked today. But he had no movement on any pitches, and was only hitting 93 tops. Seems as if Ozzie or Coop could have been able to see that Billy had no movement, and wasn't popping his fastball. Luckily, we used him in a 12-5 game in the 9th inning the day before :headshake
BridgeportHeather
Now, don't tell me you're gonna continue backing the Botchaholic THIS year, are ya, Tommy???
Capn12
Trust me Heather....I'm on thin ice when it comes to Billy after todays performance. But I still know that Koch can get the job done. I am starting to tire of his attempt to rectify the situation by using comedy when talking to the press. He looked too damn good so far this year before today to just make the general "Koch sucks" statement that people seem to love to use. I believe that Koch can get it done, and I still believe that he will. I'm just sort of at a loss after seeing him perform in the 2nd of back to back outings. He looked completely like the Koch of last year that had no tailing action at all on his pitches. Thats NOT the Billy Koch that was out there the first 7 games. flippedoutpunk
Did you guys hear on the score that billy said he should be throwing in the 99s or the 100s by the all star break because he feels he can

Who's Botch kidding here???

Just make sure you duck right away cause it's coming back at you at least that fast.
flippedoutpunk
lol! The chances of him throwing 100 mph are the same as me running a 40 yard dash, and actually finishing it.
winninguglyin83
The only thing I have to say on Koch is how many more Carl Crawford/Carlos Beltran moments can one team withstand. Not bloody many. time for a change.com

Not bloody many. time for a change.com now c'mon wu83. I understand your point, but in NO WAY should Carlos Beltran's HR be compared to the Carl Crawford incident. Beltran and Sweeney have LONG since been Sox killers....
YASNY
I'm with Capn12 on this one. It's too soon to give up on Koch. My main reasoning for that is that we NEED him to be the Billy Koch of old. We don't know if Marte has a closer's mentality, and it appears that Politte does not, which is a shame because he can bring it. As for Shingo, well, I'm not even going to go there. So, if Koch fails, who's our closer?
The Critic
I agree with Capn and YAS - 8 games into the year is too soon to give up on anyone. Frank Thomas is hitting in the low 200's with no homers yet - bench him? No. Am I happy with Koch's last outing? Nope. Do I think he should get the next save op? Not if it's today, but only because I don't want to see him throw in 3 straight games. It was unwise ( in retrospect ) to use him in a blowout. He might not have had his best stuff because of that. His velocity and location HAD been better before this last outing. I'm going to wait until the low velocity becomes more of a pattern before I log onto killbillkoch.com. I'm just VERY glad that the OzzieSox didn't roll over and go out 1-2-3 like the ZombieSox might have last season.
aboz56
The thing that bothers me about Billy Koch is that even when he had his run of good seasons, he never picked up an easy save. He made his living getting into trouble and then blowing the fastball by people to get out of it. He no longer has the heat he once possessed. I hear all of this talk that his velocity is going back up and he's got a lot of movement on his pitches, but I just don't see it. While I admit he hasn't looked terrible (with the exception of yesterday's outing) he has also yet to look exceptional. I don't think Ozzie waits like JM does to give Koch the hook once and for all. After all, the Oz does want to win and if he feels Koch is just going to blow game after game after game, he'll be assigned to mop-up duty. Permanently. Be Good
Ya he does really have to much faith in this fellow, I still think it should be Pollite closing and Marte being the set-up man like last yr,
Texsox
One positive thing that OZ is doing is allowing the players to make their own bed. If Billy becomes an expensive set up or mop up guy, he will not be able to look at anyone else but himself. I think that sends a positive message to the other players. My hunch is we will see William Koch out there in the 9th inning again, very soon.

DonkeyKongerko
Politte tried closing last year and let's just say it did't work out for him. I think we are gonna be seeing a closer by committee for a while until Koch reaches his 100mph he claims will be back soon.
