This thread has no intention of undermining the scoring system of that game. The purpose of this thread is to keep track of the value of each SOX player as the season progresses. The point value system: Doing away with .5 pts. They are too time-consuming to manage. Bats: (Incremental hit values) Hits: 1B=10, 2B=20, 3B=30, HR=50 Hits-Ron: 5 pts for each base + BONUS 5 pts for run scored Non-Hits: 1B=5, Non-Hits-Ron: 2 pts for each base earned + BONUS 3 pts for run scored This system places a value on BOTH the quality of the AB & the effect it has on RON. Non-hits addresses the impact of sacrifices, fielder's choice, errors, etc. Basically if you move a runner over in a non-hit AB you should get some credit for making someone make a play on the ball. Runner: SB: 2B=10, 3B=15, RS=20, -5 pts for each CS (RS=Run Stolen) FP: 2 pts for each base earned in the field of play This system rewards some value for smart base running during the field of play. It's much harder to steal home than 3rd & 3rd than 2nd. Hence the increments. Arms: Evaluation of pitchers will be based on evaluation of opposing team's hitters. That total for each pitcher will then be divided by innings pitched. The pitcher with the least point value is the arm of the game. The old system performed double taxation on a pitchers performance. The hitter receives value for moving a runner over & the runner receives some value as well. This is double taxation on a pitcher. The new system will no longer consider the runners value other than SB & CS.

JUGGERNAUT
Doubles are now worth 20 pts. The rash of doubles on Sat pointed out the flaw. Harris hits a single & steals 2nd = Harris hitting a double. A homerun with RON 1 (10+50+10=70) < 3 doubles (20+10+20+10+20=80) Both score 2 runs but the 3 doubles leaves a RON 2. A homerun with RON 1 (10+50+10=70) < 2 triples,& a single (30+10+30+20=90) Both score 2 runs but the single leaves a RON 1. I think the difficulty as well as the odds in defending 2 triples & a single is of greater value than 3 doubles even though the 3 doubles leaves a better scoring situation. After the first series I'm impressed with the new scoring system. DW(34.0)=34 SS(10.1)=10.1 EL(03.8)=3.8 SS pitched 300% better than DW, & EL pitched less than 200% better than SS. That's what you would expect in comparing a 3 er to 0 er to 2 hit CG Shut-out. I think EL's peformance might rank the best in the year which is another nice thing about the scoring system. It will be tracked all season long. On the offense side things are much better represented as well. The old system rewarded too much for bases earned on non-hits. In the old system a BL walk = 400% the value of a walk. Now it's a little over 100% the value of a walk. The bonus for runs scored as a result of a hit is big change as well. BrandoFan
Tuesday's GoG: Willie Harris Rowand prevented a runner from tagging up, but it was a shallow flyball, so I am not how much credit he deserves for it. He misplayed a double and a single. So even though Willie mistimed his dive, he kept it on the infield and otherwise was flawless. He is the GoG by default as nobody else stood out and/or played crappy D.
BrandoFan
Wed GoG: Rowand From the seats it looked like it was gonna be a sure double. Maggs made an excellent catch as well but it was too far for me to see the details and, besides, the score was already 3-1 Yanks whereas Aaron did it in a scoreless game, saving a run-scoring hit. No standouts otherwise. When Maggs chocked with bases loaded, you had a feeling the game was over even though it was 0-0.

BrandoFan
The funny part about Sunday's BoG is that Frank Thomas would have been one if he had more luck -- he was robbed of an RBI double AND his missle single with a man on base was caught. Then, without his 9th inning single, Dranfeldt and Uribe do not even come to the plate. With more luck, he would have had 4 total bases to Uribe's 5, with 1 RBI to Uribe's 2 -- but Frank WOULD have deserved it more because of the sequence factor IMO. Just for future reference, when you will undoubtedly have a situation where player A may lead Player B in "points" or may have a high-light reel play (like a game winning walk), but the player B was quietly more instrumental in making the win possible.
