whitesox61382
When does Andy Gonzalez lose prospect status? The reason that I ask is because I really thing Antoin Gray has a chance to be a very good player, but right now he is stuck behind Valido and Gonzalez. Valido is the Sox top middle infield prospect and should be getting everyday playing time, but Gonzalez is repeating low A ball after a terrible year last year and is looking terrible. I think Gray should get some more starts, because every where this kid has gone he has hit. If you want an interesting comparison, than check out Gray's stats in 2002 at Southern University and compare them to teammate Richie Weeks(considered by many to be the top middle infield prospect in baseball). Its remarkable how similar they are, yet Weeks is the one that got all the attention(2nd overall pick in 2003) compared to Gray(25th round pick in 2003). On a side note, can anyone tell me a little about Thomas Brice? I know a little about him(mostly his stats the past couple of years). He seems like a solid line drive hitter with decent plate disipline, but I have noticed that he has already hit 2 HR's this year. What is his status as a prospect? Is his still a marginal prospect that needs a big year to even be considered a solid prospect?
Heads22
Wow, Reed and Nelson seem to be doing real well, and Jeremy is showing he can handle AA pitching too. Too bad about the blown dave for Majewski. Overshadows real nice performances by Wylie (an Iowa boy) and Darensbourg.
danman31
Super cool work by The Cheat. I gotta learn how to do that. Reed has back-to-back 3 for 4 games, that is extremely encouraging. It is great to see him hitting .400. I am really starting to believe that he is going to become a great hitter in the bigs. After last season I was thinking that he was going to become a solid hitter for us (I mean he was compared to Mark Kotsay for crying out loud), but now damn... Also Borchard struggling has me really worried. When I wrote my Kannapolis preview for FutureSox I was thinking the same thing, noticing that Gray wasn't going to play much. W-S' infield has room for improvement so I would think there is a chance for somebody in the Kanny infield to move up if they play well. Thomas Brice was player of the year in Kannapolis, but the W-S outfielders took priority over him getting promoted. I think he has a chance to be a big leaguer because he is hitting again this year, but I don't think he is going to be a top prospect ever in his career. I personally see him being dealt by the Sox in a trade for a reliever this season because he is DHing in Kanny and we have a bunch of outfielders in our minor league system. I'm not saying we should or will trade him, but I'm saying he is expendable.
DBAHO
The way is Rowand is strugglin at pitches low and away, if Reed keeps hittin like this, I think we could see a change quite soon. Borchard has slumped in the last few games, but it's still only early. Hopefully he can pick it back up.
DBAHO
Also Bryant Nelson has been a big suprise so far. Seems to be hav the 2nd base job to himself and is a DH sumtimes as well. Battin leadoff, and hittin ova .300. Last year he was in Japan playin for Daiei, he only hit .228 ova there. He played 25 games in Boston though in 2002 hittin .
danman31
Yeah Reed in CF. I'm a Rowand fan, but Reed gets priority on my list. Borchard should turn it around, but he's losing my faith by the day. I had faith in him going into the season. Bryant is surprising, but I doubt he will keep it up.

Chisoxfn
61382 I got the same feeling with you on Gray. First, I like Valido as our shortstop prospect so I think he should be getting mucho playing time their. I also think Gray has earned the right to get AB's. I don't have a problem with Andy getting at bats too, but I don't think Gray should just rot on the bench, the guy is a heck of a hitter. As far as Brice goes, he's a really solid all around player. His knock has always been the lack of power, but he has a sweet swing and I've heard from a few people that he has the best arm in the organization (This was before last years draft). I don't know whether they meant strongest or just best with a combination of accuracy and strength. We've always heard that Borchard has the CANNON, but Brice is supposed to be pretty good. He's just stuck behind so many guys, although I could easily see him moving up to Winston Salem at some point this year, although not until the other guys move up. MnSoxFan
Borchard does not have a cannon......... When playing together, it was easily apparent that Rowand's arm was much stronger. Agreed, Borchard arm is highly overrated, I saw him in ST last year, was not very impressed. Most likely since a QB everyone figures he has a great arm. Would say Anderson may have best OF arm in org, tho Brice is supposed to be very strong, as a pitcher Brice threw 93 or so, same with Anderson. Sweeney and Nanita have good arms too, all our OFs are decent all around. Would like to see AGon switch to the mound, he will never make it as a hitter, doubt he makes it as a Pitcher either. From what I hear, Andy Gonzalez' problems are more in between the ears than with his physical talent. Not sure a move to the mound will help until he grows up. Chisoxfn
I'm with you mn. I think the Sox need to realize offensively he's awful. Then again they talk to him and work with him every day so the coaches may see the issue being something other then physical (like Rex says) and if he really is immature and whiny, then he'll fail miserably as a pitcher. Still, he's got a dynamite arm. I think part of Yan's woes are him having a hurt shoulder. He's got speed and is a solid slap hitter, I think he could be a guy that pans out, but he'll progress slowly in the minors, imo.
