CWSGuy406
I try, real hard, not to be one of negativity or pessimism on this board. Fact is, our bats fell asleep today, and, it really doesn't get any easier tommorow. I fully expect for our team to play a lot better tommorow, but here's what I got out of today. -Willie Harris set the table pretty well today. A nice leadoff single was a good way to start the game, too bad no one drove him home. Wasn't he 2/3? -For all of the contract talk around Frank Thomas, fact is, IMO he is not a selfish player. He continues to draw the walk, when he could just as easily swing at a dumb pitch just because he wants a homer. He'll draw his 100+ walks, and hit 270+. -Fact is, our pitching staff kept us in the game today. I'll take that any day from a game where our fifth starter is pitching (even though I didn't like how Wright pitched today.) -Neal Cotts continues to show some nice promise. I think, soon enough, he will get a chance in the rotation. He sure deserves a chance to start. My only problem with him, is that I think he isn't quite confident enough yet to get out lefties. He seems to do better against righties. -Shingo Takatsu is doing a pretty nice job against righties, I might say. Even if it was just against the D-Rays, so what? He made some of their hitters look pretty foolish, they were WAY ahead of his pitches. Shingo has a real nice pitch that I love it when he throws it - it is a very slow, slow pitch, only about 68 MPH on the gun. It was the pitch he got Julio Lugo to K on, it just kept tailing away from him, and you see it for so long because it's such a slow pitch. LOL, I laughed when Shingo, after throwing his change, came back with his 'heater' of 87 MPH, hehe. -Ill give Billy Koch his props. He kept his pitches down, and got his breaking pitch over. I still want to see Koch given another shot, I feel that he made good pitches vs KC that Beltran just made a good swing on (look at it again, it was down and away, good placement, better swing.) There's all I could really pull out of this game. Our bats died today, we need a winner tommorow, or at least we need to look alive. Hopefully we can hit Zambrano tommorow, he's been pretty damn good so far. That's all for now, Lets Go Sox, Go get those D-Rays tommorow! DBAHO
I thought Shingo looked impressive, D-Ray hitters seemed to hav no idea what to do against him. Afta today though I'm most worried about Cotts. Ozzie had no right to pull him afta he only gav up 1 single, I just hope it doesn't affect his confidence much, because he's done really well in spring training and in Yankee Stadium in his only otha appearance. flippedoutpunk
Shingo was my fav bright spot today. I dont care if he pitches 67 mph pitches or 100 mph pitches, if he gets people out and makes people look foolish like he did today, hes okay in my book. If we wake up our bats tommorrow and rock Zambrano thatll be a great confidence booster for us all.
NUKE_CLEVELAND
The pen was a defenite positive with 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball. Hell, even Botch managed to get 3 people out without giving up a run.
greg775
I'm not complaining but what happened today? How come we were so flat? Was their pitcher simply outstanding? Or is it just baseball? where stuff happens?

SnB
nothing to get too upset about, the sox were due for an offensive let down after being absolutely explosive so far, we can't win 'em all, just come back tommorow and try again, I'm not fretting. Yeah. I am still satisfied with a 6-4 record. We should get the next two, as well.
EvilJester99
I believe the bull pen is finally showing some promise. Now we need the starters to show up more consistantly and I think this team will be tough to beat.
Be Good
Good to see someone still has a positive attitude around here... I always do, because I feel someone needs one. Plus folks it's only one game, and many Sox fans were saying we would be happy if we finish .500 for april.

DBAHO
He had every right to pull Cotts. He's the manager. He's got the right to, I just don't think it was the right decision. Doesn't really send a good message across to Cotts, although I shouldn't really be complainin, Shingo came in and looked very, very impressive. That mite not hav happened if he didn't pull Cotts. You have to think about the circumstances. Before the series, Ozzie said that the Rays have a lot of lefties and that there would be plenty of opportunities for Marte and Cotts to pitch. I'm sure he felt like he'd probably need Cotts again before the series is over.

I agree w/ Yasny about not overusing Cotts this series. He might be needed w/ the LH batters and w/ SS going Sat. Also, the Sox needed to see if Shingo could get outs with runners on base. Cotts getting the team out of the 4th inning jam should be all the confidence he needs. Cotts has pitched great so far so I don't see him reverting back to his 2003 form anytime soon. The Critic
I'm not complaining but what happened today? How come we were so flat? Was their pitcher simply outstanding? Or is it just baseball? where stuff happens? Their pitcher was outstanding. Abbott kept the hitters guessing wrong all night. Also, yes - s*** DOES happen. The bats aren't going to be hot EVERY night. Wright made two mistakes that hurt him, but still threw pretty well. 3 runs will keep this team in most games. Shingo threw well. Just one of those days. Forget it and move on.
