YASNY
I wrote this ARTICLE about 10 days ago. Check it out. I'd be interested in your thoughts. Thanks.
DBAHO
I thought it was a good read there YASNY. Sum good points made, a good start and we will see sum new additions to this ballclub. I would hav said a new starter, but afta the way Shoe pitched against TB, it looks like we hav 4 capable starters, for the MOMENT. Walker seems to be doin the job with the hitters, and Coop with the hitters, both very good coaches to hav.
cwsox
Excellent job there YAS. One could comment on a point here or there but that would miss the point of the excellence of your overview of the whole.
YASNY
Excellent job there YAS. One could comment on a point here or there but that would miss the point of the excellence of your overview of the whole. I'm sure my "points" will analyzed, dissected, bashed and scrutinized. That's ok though. That's the purpose of this board and WhiteSoxCentral. Thanks for the kind words.

YASNY
I think you captured the zeitgeist of JR as well as anyne has. I've had an eye on JR's MO for 23+ years now.

For those unable to graps the meaning of zeitgeist, The spirit of the time; the taste and outlook characteristic of a period or generation:

BrandoFan
Great job, YASNY. Clear and on-the-money.
Rooftop Shots
Great job Yas! Without a doubt, you put some time into thinking it out before you wrote it. As I thought about it, it would be nice if JR could read your lit piece as well as others opinions on the board, but as my thoughts continue, what fans think, really has not much concern in the thought process of JR and how he runs the organization. JR will be the JR of who he is, and the way that you quoted it, and unfortunately, that wil probably always remain as is. Buisnessman 1st. Care about winning, 2nd. cwsox
JR will be the JR of who he is, and the way that you quoted it, and unfortunately, that wil probably always remain as is. Buisnessman 1st. Care about winning, 2nd. I am going to disagree a tad there. I used to bash JR on that a lot. And then I met him accidentally in a casual situation where we talked for a long time. I came away very convinced that JR is as big of a fan as all of us are and wants to win as much as we do. (It surprised me too.) It was in his voice, in his eyes, when he talked about the Sox. The choices he makes as a fan who owns the team may be different than the ones that I might make - although I don't have access to all the information that he works from and I knwow that life is seldom what it appears. And disagreeing with business decisions is our right of course and I'm not saying that, nor that I agree by any means with everyting he has done or may do. So in short I can't view him as a businessman first anymore as if there is some huge gap between him as a businessman and as a Sox fan. There may be a slight, maybe some, gap yet I don't think it is that huge. I know YASNY said that there was a gap and I posted that I thought he captured things well, because I do. It was the sentence prior to that which one must be weighed in the balance which is why I so much liked how YASNY juxtaposed it: Jerry Reinsdorf, a.k.a. the ownership, has shown a penchant for being frugal when it comes to acquiring high-priced talent, yet will take an occasional plunge if he believes there is a reasonable chance that there will be a significant payoff in achieving organizational goals. JR has spent the money at times. It is easy for me to spend other people's money. I am most certainly not a JR apologist (don't get me started on the 1994 season...). Disagree with him all one wants. I am just saying that he is more of a fan, far more of a fan, than most realise. Yeah, it surprised me too.

I hope the day comes when he makes a believer out of everyone, because as you well know, most Sox followers haven't had the chance to be in your shoes and have not yet been convinced of his urgency to win. I think what would help is if we sign Maggs, win (at least) the division, and build upon that by hopefully signing Konerko and Loaiza on top of that. I guess some of the trust was not only put aside because of 94, but also, it really hurt to see Colon let go. Let's hope our guys can really put the screws to the other teams in the central division, and then see what happens come July!!
