cwsox
Right decision. A little "preachy", though. occupational hazard
DBAHO
I edited the topic title. I realise that "Kill the Ump" is an old phrase in baseball and my opinion, not a very good phrase. Death is not an appropriate wish in response to a call in a game. Far, far more than that the admins and mods recently made a decision that all death threats would be not allowed. We had a situation where someone wished death on a broadcaster and it was problamatic to say the least. Before I get accused of being overly sensitive, I am not only enforcing a admin/mod decision (which I support fully)... ... but in the "kill the ump" case we as Sox fans should be especially sensitive since we have had an umpire attacked and permanently injurd on our field. There is a correlation between causal language and actions. Any complaints, PM me. Abuse the Ump?
EvilJester99
I think the political correctness is getting a little ridiculous these days.

Texsox
I think the political correctness is getting a little ridiculous these days. Ahh the good old days when you could wish someone dead. I think there should be some restraint and wishing someone killed seems like an easy enough standard.
EvilJester99
Decency?? Are you kidding? You mean to tell me if someone says "kill the ump" thats indecent?? There are so many worse things a person can say because most people say it but would never do it. Wow I must be outta touch with this over sensitvity to others feelings garbage anymore. southsider2k5
I think the political correctness is getting a little ridiculous these days. The problem is there is a small group of people here who can't handle themselves, and have ruined it for the 99% of people who understand how to post decently and get jokes. So we only stop the most indecent thing and let everything else pass? Name something more indecent than me wishing you dead? You are outraged because soxtalk owners drew the line at death, others would be outraged because they allowed it; which is better? Perhaps some people cannot express themselves without using death threats. I think they can. It will just take a little practice.

Just because you wouldn't do it doesn't make it OK to make any threat you want. It's wrong to wish someone dead. I'm sure they would change the title of a thread that said: MOLEST THE CHILDREN or HANG THE BLACKS. I wouldn't do those things, but it doesn't make it OK to broadcast those things. Queen Prawn
I can only imagine the reaction the musical 'Damn Yankees' would get now a days. Let's be honest here, we've all said about the same to a ref or an ump. I am sure we all know it is a heat of the moment, not actually gonna do it, just need to blow off steam kinda comment. Sorry, but I just can't see Heather running onto the field to kill the ump with her red marking pen.
EvilJester99
I think this is being taken way too literal here. Just because one says "kill the ump" does not mean they would kill him. Sheesh. Its an expression. Something not to be taken literally just as Fan said to blow off steam. Anyway, if you feel it threatens others then you are entitled to feel what you want. However when I say I could care less about it, I am also entitled to it as well.

I think the mods just want the title changed and probably would allow the comment within the body of the post as long as it was obvious that it was in jest, which it was. EvilJester99
Fair enough. We agree to disagree on this subject.
Controlled Chaos
Back to the umpiring. The guy had a huge strike zone...but he went both ways so that was cool. If you're gonna call that outside pitch a strike..then do it for both teams and he did. The problem I had was 3rd call strikes...He seem to call those against us and not against the them.... I know you can't blame the game on the ump...and I'm not....the sox made their mistakes.... but I think if Cotts gets out of that inning without the walk,(on that 2-2 or 3-2 pitch he threw a dead strike and didnt' get it) we are tied!!!!! Then everything changes....The yanks start feeling a little more panicked the sox start feelin a little more confident and things start happening. Yeah we got behind the ball early....and Buehrle sucked...but that walk....that f***in gift run....was the play that cost us the game yesterday. By no means do I mean Cotts cost us the game...I just mean there's usually a point in a game where you can look back and see where it happened and for me....that walk did it. Thanks Blue!! :fyou
