popeye089
We, meaning Chicago, is third largest metropolitan sports venue in the country. AND ALL OF OUR TEAMS SUCK! I LOVE the Bears, root for the bulls, :finger the Cubbies, and will always be a lifer when it comes to the Sox. Win or lose I have always loved the Sox. But Jerry Reinsdorf is an old school owner. Our payroll of around $60 million is self emposed. All teams were given $50 million to start off the year as part of the revenue sharing plan. Add in that our city is number three for money markets. Being number three shouldn't we follow a ratio law and have all of our teams at least be in the top five every year. WHERE ARE OUR DYNASTIES? The Cubs and Sox rarley compete anymore. At least the Cubs try and have an $80 mil payroll. Kenny Williams bust has ass off every year and makes deals for superstars to come to chicago mid year, but Reinsdorf never resigns them. I know some of these names I am going to metion had bad seasons here but we never gave them a second chance, and their careers prove that they should have bounced back and been great again but we never even tried because of cheapness ( I am only going to use recent names). David Wells, Carl Everett, Alomar, Foulke, etc. Some of you will say that the Cubs get most fan support, but I have news for you, Chicago is full of fair weather fans. Nothing wrong with that. People originally went to Wrigley because of the scenery and now theyexpect to see good baseball because of additions made. If jerry can keep and sign great players I guarantee Comiskey Park would be filled again. Remember when the Yankees were doing bad in 80's & early 90's, nobody went to their games. Steinbrener turned his wallet upside in mid 90's and now the Yanks are "America's Team"

Steinbrener turned his wallet upside in mid 90's and now the Yanks are "America's Team" "The Cubs and Sox rarley compete anymore" --INACCURATE. THE SOX ALMOST MADE THE PLAYOOFS LAST YEAR, WON THE CENTRAL IN 2000, WOULD HAVE WON IN 1994, WON THE CENTRAL IN 93, AND FINISHED SECOND ALMOST EVERY YEAR TO THE A'S JUGGERNAUT IN THE LATE 80'S, EARLY 90'S. THE CUBS WERE A PLAYOFF TEAM LAST YEAR, ALMOST WENT IN 2001 OR 02, WERE THE WILD CARD IN 1998, WENT TO THE PLAYOFFS IN 1989, AND 1984. DYNASTIES THEY'RE NOT, BUT TO SAY THEY HARDLY COMPETE? RIDICULOUS. At least the Cubs try and have an $80 mil payroll. --SURE, IN THE LAST TWO YEARS THEY HAVE. BUT HOW MANY YEARS PRIOR TO THAT WAS WRIGLEY FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH LEMMINGS PAYING $5 A BEER TO WATCH A LOWER-MIDDLE OF THE PACK PAYROLL? David Wells, Carl Everett, Alomar, Foulke, etc. --WITH THE EXCEPTION OF FOULKE, (AND EVERETT, WHO FOR THE 900TH f***ING TIME COULD NOT HAVE BEEN RESIGNED REALISTICALLY BECAUSE OF ARBITRATION) THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO RESIGN THE PLAYERS YOU HAVE MENTIONED. DAVID WELLS ONLY SHOWS UP TO PLAY WHEN HE IS ON THE YANKEES, AND ALOMAR IS TEN TIMES WORSE RIGHT NOW THAN EITHER HARRIS OR URIBE(OR D'ANGELO JIMENEZ). CAN'T ARGUE THAT MORE MOVES SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO MAKE GOOD TEAMS BETTER, BUT THROWING MONEY AWAY JUST TO PUT UP THE FACADE OF "WE'RE TRYING" IS JUST STUPID. People originally went to Wrigley because of the scenery and now theyexpect to see good baseball because of additions made --INCORRECT. FANS WENT TO WRIGLEY BECAUSE THE CUBS WERE BROADCAST ON THE NATION'S MOST POWERFUL RADIO STATION, WHICH OWNED ONE OF THE NATION'S LARGEST NEWSPAPERS, AND THE NATION'S FIRST TRULY NATIONWIDE TELEVISION STATION(AND I WILL CEASE USING THE WORD 'NATION' NOW). THIS EXPOSURE CREATED LEGIONS OF FANS THAT NOW TEAM IN BASEBALL, SANS MAYBE THE YANKEES OR DODGERS CAN MATCH. AS THE CUBS PLODDED THROUGH THE GARBAGE YEARS DURING MOST OF THE 80'S AND 90'S, WRIGLEY WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ANYWHERE NEAR AS FILLED IF IT WEREN'T STATIONED SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN UPPER-CLASS NEIGHBORHOOD WITH A HUGE POPULATION DENSITY COMPRISED OF UPPER 20, LOWER 30-SOMETHINGS WITH NO SPOUSE/KIDS AND LOTS OF DISPOSABLE INCOME. Steinbrener turned his wallet upside in mid 90's and now the Yanks are "America's Team" --STEINBRENNER DIDN'T EXACTLY "TURN HIS WALLET UPSIDE-DOWN." HE SIGNED THAT HUGE DEAL WITH THE CABLE COMPANY, AND THAT GAVE HIM A HUGE NEW REVENUE STREAM TO WORK WITH. EVERYONE BUT YANKEE FANS HATES THE YANKEES, CALLING THEM "AMERICA'S TEAM" IS A STRETCH AT BEST, LUDICROUS AT WORST.
