Who will make it out from the Minors?

What player in our minor league system will play a huge role for us to be successful this year? I think Ed Almonte will be key for us. Rauch can have a break out season this year.

How about Mario Valenzuela, he looks like a good hitter? Could it be Malone or may be he needs more time in the minors.

But I'm kind of intrigue by Josh Stewart, will he be able to pitch in the bigs. I know I may be dreaming but can he be a pleasant surprise the way Buerhle surprised us?

i dont thin kthere wil lbe a surprise player out of ST to make this team..the roster is almost set...if i had to pick a surprise player i can think of 2 but they are both longshots..

1.) josh stewart for the 5th starter spot

2.) arnie munoz beats out wunsch for the lefty specialist spot

every other spot on the roster is pretty much rock solid...even the wunch thing is a huge stretch but arnie looks like the best pitcher we got in the minors right now thats ready to make the jump..so i just picked him over wunch because thats his only shot to make the team...but its like a 1/20 shot

but with injuries, who knows???

I don't see many of our current minor leaguers making much of an impact this year, unless there are injuries. Thats what I like about this team though, if there are injuries I see a number of players that could step up, such as Almonte Munoz, Stewart, Borchard, Hummell.

As far as Malone goes, he needs at least on more year. The kid is very young and very raw and has a lot to work on this year, especially with his mechanics.

Out of the ones on the team, since Crede, Jimenez and Rowand aren't technically rookies, I'm going to go with Jon Rauch. This guy is going to be thrusted into the #5 slot into the rotation and if he suceeds like many think he can, this team will be a whole lot better. If he struggles, then the Sox will have to keep looking to others and experimenting until they find the right guy.

I also think Borchard will eventually have some type of impact on this team and Olivo will be a very good presence behind the plate.

None.  How can the Sox bring up any pitcher from the minors when we we keep signing veteran pitchers who are well past their prime? (I exclude Flash Gordon from that category)

Well, Heredia and Loiza are just backup plans. If rookies are failing, sometimes you need a guy thats been out there in that situation. In that case, its really nice knowing you have veterans to fall back on, just in case.

In the case of Rick White, I think you'll end up liking him. I like having a few vets in the pen, because relievers need a great mental approach to the game and I think vets are some of the best at teaching that approach.

That is why I am gonna say Jon Rauch. Loaiza and Heredia? No thank you. Let's give the ball to JR and see what he can do. If he can pitch in 2003 similarly to how he pitched against the Twinkies in two games in 2002, then we're set..... injuries not withstanding.

our avg starting rotation is like 28 or something like that how can you say we are signing old guys?

starters

56 Mark Buehrle 23

40 Bartolo Colon 29

52 Jon Garland 24

36 Dan Wright 25

51 Jon Rauch 24

avg age 24.8

relivers

38 Gary Glover 26

45 Flash Gordon 35

44 Billy Koch 28

43 Damaso Marte 28

41 Mike Porzio 30

50 Rick White 34

65 Kelly Wunsch 30

58 Matt Ginter 25

avg age 29.5

overall team pitching is 27.5 and besides our starting pitching is only 24.8 has a starter and that is rauches age :)

If I had to make a guess...I'd guess that we have the second youngest pitching staff in the league....and if I had to give my opinion....I'd say we have the second best pitching staff in the league.

If I had to make another guess...I'd have to say that the teams above us are not the same team.

Old or not, I like Rick White.  The dude has a 'tude.

The guy will be a great leader out of that pen, even if we don't use him a lot. I love the idea of having a few role playing vets on the bench and in the pen.

We got Alomar and Daubach on the bench and to a lesser extent Rios and then White and Gordon in the pen.

Hot, we've been on a roll together, but I have to disagree with you on this one... IF Miles is too get his chance, it will not be until 2004, assuming there will be no rash of injuries.

There is a decent chance he won't even get to play full-time at AAA this year with Hummel and Nunez there.

He needs to prove himself for another full season before he can be considered Major League material.
