Well I'll be damned.... ;-)

Soxfest, here is your scenario.... (Based on the assumption that neither Rowand nor Borchard bust)

Within the next two years, either Carlos, Frank or Maggs will go. Before you go nuts, think about it. Maggs has contract issues. Will he be signed long term? Will he seek free agency? We don't know the answers, so he has to be considered a possibility here, albeit not the preferred one.

Frank could walk after this year or after next based on his new contract.

If Carlos breaks out, it would be tough to move him. If he doesn't then he'll likely be too expensive to keep around.

If Frank leaves, look for Carlos to move to 1B/DH (Carlos had good hands when he played 3B, just terrible feet. He'd have to fix that to play 1B, but most of his foot problems came on throws, so I think he could). Either Rowand or Borchad will patrol CF, whichever is better at that time. My hunch is Rowand, but I will not doubt Borch's ability to improve. With that, if Maggs is still around then look for a possible move to LF. It might take 2-3 yrs for all of the to play out, but both Rowand and Borchard (with reasonably expected development) would be a better RF. Sorry Hot... But both of their arms are better than Maggs, and Maggs isn't winning any gold gloves in RF (not saying he is bad, just that there may be better options).

There are a lot of assumptions here, but something will have to give if Rowand plays like I think he can and Borchard develops like we hope he will.

I voted for Olivo in this poll because of the jump from AA.  I'm not as worried about the jump because he spent two years at AA and the Southern League the last 2 years has been a pitcher's league.  I think he will be fine long term and I believe he will be okay this year as well, but he may only hit .258 with 8 HR and 54 RBI.  Would that be considered a bust?  Depends on how you look at it.......

Crede will be fine and a good player, but if you are looking for 30 HR and 100 RBI out of him, then perhaps he could be considered a bust.  Guess it just depends on your expectations for him.

Jiminez has the least chance to be a bust in my opinion, because I believe the expectations are the lowest for him.  If he hits .260-.270, walks some and plays solid D, then that is good enough.

On Rowand, see my last post...

Keep in mind, none of these guys are going to bust out with a career year, but all should be solid and meet realistic expectations.

I don't consider that a bust if he's playing good defense. Think of it this way, its still a definate upgrade over last year. Olivo is better defensively then Paul or MJ. The one thing MJ has on him is that at this stage of the game he calls a better game. That should change as Sandy teaches him.

rex we usually sit behind home in about the 4th row up......on empty nites though i prefer to sit by the dugout so i can talk to the players a little...........theres no way possible you can miss me...............ill be the only one there not speaking southern..........lol.........now as for what you have said to soxfest.. i have to agree with most of it.... maggs, much as i love him will most likely be gone.. espically if he keeps improving each year and torre keeps courting him at all star games like he does.......it wont be long before maggs figures out what his worth actually is in a lineup and he will be gone to the highest bidder.............carlos probably wont be going anywhere for a while since he is kw's best friend..... i imagine him being the dh when frank leaves... which by the way may be soon as next season depending on how well he plays in the field this year.......i like rowand and joey boy out there in the of... cf, lf or rf i dont care which .. if it need be now i know maggs can play lf as well as rf.. so that leaves the other corner for joe and keep rowand in cf..........either way you cut it our outfield problems are not as bad as our infield problems.... i honestly do not trust in jimenez... and harris is iffy too..........we really dont have anyone ready enough to take those spots either.......hummel is at least a year off yet and kw doesnt seem interested in miles (which would be the better choice if i had it my way)......so i think that in the ss/2nd position is where were most screwed..............jmho though take it for what its worth............oh and btw for the record i have been divorced for about 12 years now.........

olivo will be ok jas and the only reason mj is not around anymore is cause somewhere along the line he p.o.d kw ..........and we all know too well what happens when you do that.............

Maggs won't go anywhere. JR will take care of him. Magglio is a very marketable player and once the White Sox pathetic Pr team realizes this, Maggs merchandise will really fly off the rack and his love in his home country will sky rocket.

This will all happen during his MVP run this year or next. The guy has all the tools and its bound to happen. Oh ya, I think the Sox are going to keep most of these guys together for a while. Lee or Thomas will be gone next year, but I think Colon will be back.

LA won't pay him any money unless there is a new owner in charge. Fox is pretty much content on selling the team and if they can't sell them you'll see them continue to lower the payroll till it is around 70 million or so. Thats a big drop off from what it currently is.

If the Dodgers were willing to pay the money they'd already have Frank. Supposedly they offered him something, but it wasn't good enough to make him leave JR. The two of them really respect eachother.

jas there was a good offer from evans to frank on the table when frank decided to stick around here for another year... of course he has personal ties to chicago at the present time and a few untied ends that need to be fixed in a legal sense in his personal life which also put a damper on him leaving this year..........i promise you that the wiggle room he now has in his contract will be excersized when the time is right and frank will be outta here...........

Ummm....... the Dodgers increased their payroll 10% this year.

Nonetheless, if Frank breaks out and has a great year and decides to walk, he could get enough the $$ he wants, or at least better than his option with the Sox is for.

Thats just what I keep hearing out here. Yes they raised the payroll, but it wasn't by some big time free agent signing. I think it was simply contracts going up and they don't have many marketable players.

They could of had Floyd to play first, instead went cheap. They let Daal walk, couldn't deal Jordan, couldn't deal Beltre. This is a team that definately has a lot of problems, namely all the money invested to Brown and Dreifort. Brown, Jordan, Greene, Beltre, and a couple other players all combined to make quite a bit more this year then they did last year if i Recall.

I know my dad is pretty pissed at the Dodgers right now, so is most of the media. They got themselves into this mess though.

Chisoxfn, I could be starting a real fight here and I will apologize it it turns into a full scale message board brawl, but I think the Dodgers will be fine.

I have nothing but confidence in Danny Evans and although KW finally has put together a nice looking club, I'd still take Evans as the Sox GM in a heartbeat.

did they make a mess or are they clearing the way for the future???????? it could go either way jas....... :D

They made a mess and they have absolutely no talent in there farm system. They do have a good looking 2nd baseman that is supposed to start this year.

They'll be decent and they got a darn good manager. If Brown and Dreifort are healthy they could be pretty good.

Well, Rowand isn't a starter

DoubleM, what makes you think this?  Rowand will be fine.  Like I have posted earlier, in due time he will become a 25-30 HR guy.  I really believe he will hit more HR's than Crede (maybe not this year).  Rowand has the best arm in the OF and covers enough ground in center.  I don't think the injury will be a problem.

maybe a bit of range lost, having his swing babied, his arm weaker....etc.

witesoxfan what gives here?  Why would he lose range when it was shoulder and ribs that were hurt?  The only way his arm is weaker is if he decides to start throwing left-handed, because that is the shoulder that was hurt.

That's right....what the hell was I thinking? I even remember reading it several times that it was his left shoulder and not his right.

My mistake....I was thinking he was one of our pitchers from 2001! :D

Yep, I also put my vote in for Jimenez.....although a close second to Olivo... for some reason, I can't help thinking that Harris is going to end up getting 300 or so ab's this year and could actually be pencilled in at the top of the lineup by summertime (yikes!) if Jimenez can't handle the pressure and fails to get on base consistently...

As for Olivo, he's been given a great opportunity, not only with the chance to start, but also to have a mentor by his side every day to teach him the craft of handling mlb pitchers...its just a lot to ask for a young guy to handle straight away...

....my hope is that the organization will be patient with all the young guys and not to bench/demote them when/if they falter a bit....its very easy to lose confidence at their age.....I look at how they handled Rauch last year and wonder if they handled that situation as well as they should have...

...anyway, if 4 out of the 4 succeed, we win it all, 3 out of 4 and we get to the series, 2 out of 4 and we still make the post season, 1 out of 4 and we end up behind the twinkies, and if all 4 guys suck, well.....

...my money's on 2 out of 4 definately (crede and rowand), with 3 out of 4 (adding olivo) as a definate possibility....

Considering that I had to choose one, and I did so reluctantly, I chose Rowand. The only reason I did that was because of the possibility that his injuries could mess up his swing, or take away from his power for a while. I like Rowand, but this injury is still a variable in this equation.

if you guys are right...it should be rowand , then maybe jimenez..good news on this is we have harris as a temporary replacement until borchard is ready should rowand fail....should it be jimenez we have harris, miles and hummell as possibly replacemants

olivo and crede do scare me the most just because if they fail we have nothing , i mean nothing to replace them...
