Cerbaho-WG
That's it, I'm through with listening to Harold Reynolds. Every stathead who follows baseball has to be laughing hysterically right now. Corey "I had a torn ACL last year and can barely get my OBP above .330" Patterson better than Frank Thomas? BA: Thomas - .303 Patterson - .264 OBP: Thomas - .489 Patterson - .309 SLG: Thomas - .591 Patterson - .462 Harold Reynolds deserves to be hit by a f***ing bus for mentioning this. hammerhead johnson
Their defense is not great. Besides, they f***ing lost! No, they have one of the best defensive teams in the league, right up there with the Cardinals and the Mariners. But as far as the topic at hand is concerned, Harold Reynolds needs to stick a fork in it. The guy is out there like Pluto.
JUGGERNAUT
Reynolds is an idiot. That's why he's know Sagarin. In the Sagarin ratings (something ALL fantasy leagues use) Thomas is ranked #2 with an RPG of 11.45. His HR today only helped his cause. Patterson is ranked 61st in the NL (5.06). Why is Reynolds an idiot? 1) He failed to consider how many times ANY BODY scores when a big bopper walks. 2) He failed to consider the wear factor on the pitcher when a big bopper has a 10 pitch walk. 3) He failed to consider how many times a big bopper walk moves a runner to 2nd. 4) He failed to consider that a big bopper walk brings another man to the plate. CrimsonWeltall
Did Reynolds directly say Patterson was better than Frank? What I heard was that OBP was overrated for big guys -like Frank- because they don't run the basepaths well while OBP is underrated for quick guys -like Patterson- because they have speed. He used some statistic like, not counting home runs, Frank was on base 200+ times but only scored 45 times.

I'd add to this: 5) He failed to consider the frustration factor after a pitcher loses a hitter after a 10 to 14 pitch at-bat, and how the next batter can benefit from the pitcher's frustration. And on the main topic, Corey Patterson will be a fine player for a long time, IMO, but he will never............NEVER.............be the hitter Frank Thomas has been for over a decade...................never. BrandoFan
Offensively, this isn't even close. Frank lags in the clutch numbers, but they should normalize as he goes on one of his patented June-July-August tears. One could say Patterson plays CF and is much faster. Well, unless he is gonna steal 50-60 bases and stop booting every other gapper, it ain't gonna make a difference. Patterson is a just a faster LH'ed Aaron Rowand. quade36
WHy do you listen to what Reynolds says, he was the 7th or 8th best player on a team at his best. He doesn't know skills, talent, and predicting if they all bit him in the

He used some statistic like, not counting home runs, Frank was on base 200+ times but only scored 45 times. That's what I got out of the argument too. But what Reynolds failed to realize was that Frank Thomas scores a lot of runs despite being big and slow. 9 100+ run scoring seasons speak for themselves. Rickey Henderson in his prime having a 400 OBP is more "valuable" than Edgar Martinez having a 450 OBP. But when we're talking about Patterson's 300 OBP versus Frank's 495? Not so much -- Frank is not THAT slow.

DonkeyKongerko
So Reynolds would rather have a team full of Jimmy Rollins and Corey Patterson type players. Players who DON'T work a pitcher, DON'T walk very much, and happen to be faster than your average ballplayer. His argument that Thomas didn't score enough runs was just ridiculous. Frank PRODUCED a s***load of runs measured in a stat we call RBI. He just didn't get knocked in by some of the knuckleheads batting behind him in the lineup in 2003. You can't go all for OBP or all against it. Look at what Billy Beane has done in Oakland trying to build a team on OBP. Their offense is pretty pathetic every year and wins on pitching and defense. Basically the conclusion is, Harold Reynolds is officially on crack. And John Kruk is the best commentator on BBTN.
santo=dorf
I just got done watching it. WHAT A f***ING MORON!!!! He said Frank only scored 45 runs last year and should hit the ball more. Hey Jackass, he had 87 runs. Oh wait, you're not counting his 42 homers. I thought you just he should hit the ball more. :fyou Harold

SoxFanForever
Early vote by me for post of the month of May! I agree, this last BBTN shows how ignorant Reynolds is when it comes to the game. He has no place on a show where there are supposed to be "experts". He wasn't a good ML player and he is a worse announcer/commentator/supposed expert.
