Frank Thomas vs. Corey Patterson

I just got finished crunching a bunch of numbers and had them all neatly laid out in a nice long post -- WHEN MY f***ING COMPUTER CRASHED :fyou ---

---------------------------------

Reynolds did not do a very good job of presenting his argument -- He subtracted franks runs that he drove in by himself via the homerun, (R-HR) adjusted runs scored. 87-42=45 -- He shuold have made that clear

Yeah, when he just blurted out that Frank scored 45 runs it made no sense. He didn't explain how the other guys got more runs or how he came to his argument. I was really confused on that when he was doing that piece.

I think Reynolds is really pushing for a manager job.

Not nearly as much as I was going to post, but here's some stats

Frank scores on 15.68% of his PA's

He scores via the HR 5.21% of his PA's

He's driven in by someone else in 10.47% of his PA's

Frank is scored by others more often than he scores himself via the homerun, therefore, if there's not men on base, it's more valuable to the team for frank to get on base in anyway possible, as he scores more runs that way. Situation dictates more than anything, but getting on base in any way possible is the goal of the game. Reynolds is an idiot.

I like the breakdown Cheat, great job to show what we all believed. :headbang

actually as far as billy beane said in his book...speed is a pretty useless aspect to look at...

Not necessarily true.... Marlins thrived at the top of the order with Pierre and Castillo swipin bags and forcing the defense to make plays because of their speed. We all know what that got em....

just another angle to look at it.

John Kruk had some inut on the subject as well. He said that when he played with Frank, he would take a couple of pitches right down the middle with runners in scoring position. He'd get his walk, but not get the runners home. I have to agree with Kruk on that. Frank used to do that all the time and would totally piss me off. In more recent years, Frank has become a somewhat more aggresive hitter.

Can somebody pull together the other middle order guys and get their runs less their homeruns? (Ramirez, Sosa, Bonds, etc.)

To look at the runs scored by Frank Thomas is stupid he is an RBI guy. If he didn't do his job the 1 and 2 guys in the lineup would not score and would ahve a poor offense.

This argument would be like saying, take away his RBI when he hit a homerun and see where it came out at, of course it would be low.

Forget it, this is a stupid topic and BBTN is a waste of time.

Last week the cub bullpen was their strength, yesterday it was one of the biggest question marks in ALL of baseball. I wish there was another option out there.

One topic if they want to talk about the cub is their offensive production when the wind is not blowing out at 40 MPH at the urinal. In a weekend series against the Mets, they scored 5 runs, same thing against the D-Backs, Then they go 10 innings without a run yesterday. Makes me think before teh bullpen is to be blamed you need to hit a little.

He never said Patterson was better than Thomas. All he said was that Patterson's OBP was more valuable then Thomas'. He's right because Patterson has speed and can score on a base hit. Thomas takes about 2 hits for him two score. At the plate I would rather have Thomas. But after that I want Patterson on base.

Here to teach the moron Reynolds:

predicted RPG = predicted runs/game of entire lineup of given player

It takes into account all of the player's offensive

statistics such as W (noting IW), HBP SB CS SH SF

as well as the normal S D T and HR.

And of equal importance it takes into account the

total OUTS made, including SO.

2004:

AL:

A 1 Thomas, Frank CHW R 11.56

A 2 Belliard, Ron CLE R 11.18

A 3 Beltran, Carlos KC B 10.81

A 4 Ford, Lew MIN R 10.80

A 5 Giambi, Jason NYY L 9.62

A 6 Mora, Melvin BAL R 9.55

A 7 Uribe, Juan CHW R 9.47

A 8 Posada, Jorge NYY B 9.22

A 9 Lopez, Javy BAL R 9.21

A 10 Ramirez, Manny BOS R 8.65

NL:

A 64 Patterson, Corey CHC L 4.93

2003:

A 6 Thomas, Frank CHW R 7.78

B 22 Patterson, Corey CHC L 5.62

Reynold's WHO THE <BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP> ARE YOU CRAPPPING?!!!!!!!!!!

No he's NOT F'g RIGHT! If you want to say that WHEN Patterson gets ON he's a more valueable runner than Frank, well that's like the F'g most obvious statement in the world to make but fine. Dually noted.

But if you're going to say that the TOTAL number of times Patterson has EARNED a base is more important than the TOTAL number of times Frank has then you're a F'g idiot.

In 2003 FT was on-base 258 times.

In 2002 FT was on-base 227 times.

In 2003 CP was on-base 114 times.

In 2002 CP was on-base 177 times.

Now any one with a F'g brain can see the vast difference in those numbers & realize that's insane to even compare these 2 players.

Reynold's don't expect a coaching job in the ML's any time soon. Dip s***!

Harold Reynolds needs to stick to broadcasting the little league world series. He was the one who was bashing A-Rod and his slow start by breaking down his swing and all that. to which A-Rod replied, "Harold Reynolds? I never realized he was that great of a player." My sentiments exactly on what the great Harold Reynolds has to say.

I got the numbers to bury that nimrod's own assertion:

2004:

CP OB/AB .329, RS/OB .533

FT OB/AB .666, RS/OB .364

2003:

CP OB/AB .347, RS/OB .149

FT OB/AB .473, RS/OB .337

2002:

CP OB/AB .299, RS/OB .401

FT OB/AB .434, RS/OB .339

The only full season to compare the 2 is 2002 & it's about a .060 difference!

Harold why don't you form a fantasy team with the Patterson's of the league & I'll form mine with Giambi, Thomas, & the other slow boppers in the league & let's see

who comes out ahead.

You'd have to be F'g the dumbest manager in the world to take Patterson's 329 OBP over Thomas' 666 right now. As the season plays out watch the RS/OB shrink quickly on CP.

I suggest Mr. Reynolds lay down the pipe before he goes on the show next time. Oh I forgot thats what he does all the time. Why is even trying to compare these two anyway. Frank is not a center fielder leadoff type. Frank is a future hall of famer. I seriously doubt Corey will even come close to Franks numbers in his career.
