Very Interesting News on B. Colon

Despite being just one game out of first place in the AL West, all is not perfect with the Anaheim Angels. Team officials are worried about ace Bartolo Colon, whose fastball, which normally hits 97 and 98 mph consistently, hovered around 92 in a loss to Detroit on Wednesday night. That same day, all-star left fielder Garret Anderson went on the disabled list for the first time in his career.

I read rumblings from scouts in the NY media and LA media that Colon Arm is one pitch away from Tommy John.  These were rumblings I read when Colon was a free agent.

I heard that somewhere too

which is why I was glad we did not re-sign him (or at least one of the reasons)

Anyone else think it is odd how every time Jerry doesn't hand out a big deal to a pitcher things start going wrong for the pitcher and it makes Jerry look like a genious. I mean guys like Black Jack, Fernandez, Alvarez(although he is doing pretty good now for LA), etc.

I am not surprised in the least that Bart is having issues, the guy doesn't give a s*** about his body or his health. That always comes back to bite people in the ass.

With pitchers, it's hard ( if not impossible ) to know for sure either way.

The Sox didn't go after Roger Clemens a few years back because they were sure he was on the decline.

So you never really know...

Clemens's got chunks of guys like Bartolo in his stool.

You're better off overpaying a little for real deals like Bonds or Unit than getting 13 Mill a year "bargains" like Colon or 11 Mill a year Millwood.

I don't think Jerry doesn't give money and big contracts to pitchers because he knows something; if that was the case, why did he not resign David Wells?(I know KW was a part of letting him go, but you get the picture)

I think it's less that he knows something and more that he doesn't want to get bit in the ass again Jamie Navarro-style.

Hey, Jerry gets NO credit from me either; he's cheap and short-sighted.

Sox aren't winning NOT because he refuses to throw money away on long-term deals for Colon, Wells, Everett, etc.....But rather because he DOESN'T SPEND, period. So the remedy is NOT in overpaying already overrated players, but to actually -- GASP -- raise the payroll into 70's and beyond.

Speaking of short-sighted......How friggin' IDIOTIC is it to ask Frank's advice re: Bonds-Belle? Bonds was a better overall than Albert back in mid-90's and definately a bigger draw. :puke

It is easy to say that now, but how can you fault Frank for wanting Belle after seeing him first handedly record the first 50HR 50 2B season in ML history, and follow it up with 148 RBI season, neither of which Bonds had even dreamed of doing.

If that isn't asking for one of our pitchers to go down I don't know what is.

It was more or less sarcasm, perhaps I should have used green. However, I dislike Colon to the fullest. He's a pitcher with loads of talent, just doesn't care. Something is coming his way, and he deserves it.
