Confederate_48
Suspend Stewart a race and he will calm down. When was the last time you heard of Harvick causing problems since he was forced to sit one out ???

The problem I have is, I like the guy when he's not being an ass.

Well, actually, I am not a huge fan of his, but I don't dislike him when he is normal.

Queen Prawn
I think Menard's is better than Home Depot, though. Service wise - definitely. But I admit, we bought our kitchen cabinets from HD - better quality and less expensive.
santo=dorf
what is your definition of a sport? Something in which the participant does a majority of the work involved. The Car is doing most of the work in NASCAR, and a horse is a majority of the work in horse racing. IMO, neither of those two can be classified with Basketbal, Baseball, or Football. You know, SPORTS!

santo=dorf
You're right. The car drives itself. NO!!!! Work as in WORK from physics!!! The car is the engine is NASCAR, horse is the engine in horse racing, and the human body is the engine in baseball. If you don't believe me go take a calc-based physics class, and a thermodynamics class to learn what an engine is and what the conservation of energy is all about. I can use the argument you just made and say "well you can't have baseball without a bat, therefore the bat is an athlete."
santo=dorf
so then would you consider chess or other board games sports? the participant does the majority of the work... No, I consider those games. I brought that argument up to someone defending NASCAR before and he said chess isn't a sport because a computer can be programmed to perform better than a human. southsideirish
so then would you consider chess or other board games sports? the participant does the majority of the work... Actually it should be considered an event. Track and Field are not sports. They are events. Horse Racing is an event. Mountain climbing is an event. Auto Racing is an event. Gymnastics, Cheelreeding, Golf, Swimming, Aerobics, Weightlifing...events! Sports are Soccer, Hockey, Basketball, Football, Baseball...maybe tennis, but I haven't decided on where that falls yet. southsideirish
Is a performer of a "sport" more of an athlete than a performer of an "event" then? It depends what sport or event you are talking about and the particular participant involved I believe. Is Ted Washington a better "athlete" than Brian Urlacher? I highly doubt it. They both play the same sport. I would not consider a race car driver an athlete based on his driving ability.

southsideirish
I haven't seen a lot of fat-assed race car drivers. I wouldn't exactly say someone that is a "fat ass" is less of an athlete than someone that isn't. The Fridge was a hell of an athlete in his prime, most likely a better athlete than any race car driver ever, but he was always considered a "fat ass." I didn't mean to draw you to this conclusion by my last comparison between Urlacher and Washington, it is just what I came up with at the time. But, alot of these drivers are very athletic now. They work out regularly and make sure they stay very healthy. What I really like about NASCAR is you don't hear about them beating up their wives, or busted with drugs, etc.

mreye
I still don't believe that that can in anyway determine if auto racing is a sport. I look at it this way: It takes someone that's "athletic" to be able to drive these cars at those speed in that heat for 500 miles. That's why I view them as athletes and it as a sport. Just my opinion.
