Texsox
Missed the games this weekend... eh? Val doesn't belong here..? Heather.. please don't confuse a horseshoe wedged up ones ass for a couple weeks as an indication that they are better than someone who's proved their worth. Royce Clayton..? Kenny Lofton..? Jiminez....? Willie Harris and Juan.. our best 6-4 combo in years... Pass the pipe sweetie. Uribe can get his at bats covering once a week or so at third, short, and second. Hell if he stays hot, he may DH a game or two.
BrandoFan
Jose's career average OPS is only.776 however As a Sox it's 812, including 915 this year, including 950 with RISP since 2001 and 850 OPS as a LH'er since 2001....I was talking about this year. SoxAce
Willie and Uribe both are our 2nd and SS. I could definitely see Valentin and Wunsch gone by the deadline. No more injury prone Wunsch and SO E6 Jose. That would do wonders.
Controlled Chaos
I think the odd man out here is A-Ro. I wanted so bad for him to prove he belonged out there, but he just isn't cutting it. Can Jose play second?? I like Uribe at SS. He has good range and gets rid of the ball fast. I would like to see: Uribe SS, Valentin 2b, Harris Center but it will most likely be: Uribe 2b, Valentin SS, Harris Center.
southsideirish
Uribe is the one who couldn't hit in Coors. And Harris is the one who couldn't hit in the minors. Signed, Perspective. Why does that matter? I didn't know the Sox played at Coors field. So far he is hitting damn well in a White Sox uniform. Willie couldn't hit in the minors? That contradicts every report that I have heard about his minor league hitting.

IIRC.. he was a .215 hitter in the minors. I could be off a few points.. but he was not that good.
Reddy
in all honesty, willie has a shot at 300 this year. i mean its a small one, but the fact that he's batting 280 right now is proof that he will adjust to major league pitching and hopefully will become a great 2nd baseman. I say until he's batting 240 or lower, keep him in... why trade willies 280 for a 230 from jose??? the homers arent worth that price. Sorry Steff, your memory ain't so good. Willie hit .380 in AAA last year, .283 in 2002, and.305 in 2001. His lowest average(minor league) in a season is .265, in 1999 in Delmarva. http://www.sports-wired.com/players/profiles/p829.asp

Al Lopez Ghost (old)
Everybody, save your time and effort on this one. It's a long season and somebody (my guess is Willie) is gonna falter. Overall I think we'll see what we saw at the start of the season, basically platooning Uribe and Harris, with Valentin sometimes sitting when Uribe fills in at short. Harris is gonna have to play better than he ever has in the bigs to keep up with Jose and Juan for playing time. But ( and I say this with a big but, as I do everything) if Willie puts up good numbers offensively, we gonna win a lot of games, pards. Reddy
and so i say keep him in while he's playing well, it would be foolish not to

Jose has played more 3rd than 2nd in his career, He has only played 19 games at second and none since 1994. He did log major time at third before Crede took over. I don't see Crede sitting so basically we have Uribe as the utility guy who Ozzie will look hard for places to play. And why not a little DH and give Frank and occassional rest? BrandoFan
And why not a little DH and give Frank and occassional rest? Because these guys' biggest value is as INFIELDERS, not DH. Frank should be there every day.
witesoxfan
why trade willies 280 for a 230 from jose??? the homers arent worth that price. That's the thing...THEY ARE. His homers alone do it for him. And Jose is not a .230 hitter. .240-.250 usually, and if he adjusts well to lefties, potentially a .260-.270 hitter, maybe even higher. The only things Willie has on Jose is money(Harris making very close to the league minimum while Jose makes $5 mill), speed(duh), and RIGHT NOW, average. I do not think it would be unrealistic for Jose to hit better then Harris, whether that means Harris drops down, Jose goes up, or a little of both. I'll just say right now that if Jose Valentin is traded, the White Sox are making a HUGE mistake.

I know about Jose at third, but 1) I wouldn't want to take Crede out of that spot and 2) My whole reason for even mentioning him at second was to help with his throws. He still has ability to use his good range and has an easier throw from 2nd. I'm not sure they will do any kind of switch like that. it will most likely be Jose at SS and Uribe at 2nd. I think only thing we lose is Rowands arm....whcih isn't good, but I think it's better than Willie's.
YASNY
Sans Valentin this team has become more defensively sound. I'm having a tough time finding a spot for Jose right now. So much for that particular streak, eh?
YASNY
With Harris, Uribe and Valentin all pushing each other for playing time, they may just push each other into having very good years. Sure, they are going to go through mini-slumps and falter from time to time, but ovrall solid seasons from all 3 of these guys is not outside the realm of possibilities. And I wholehearted agree with witesoxfan's statement that trading Jose Valentin would be a HUGE mistake. This guy just doesn't get anywhere remotely close to the credit he deserves. The dude is just a gamer.
