The Beast
I know in NFL and NBA drafts you can, but in baseball, can you trade draft picks for major leaguers? I'd want the number 1 pick to select the kind of caliber guy of Prior to command a staff quickly. Thoughts? Answers? Thanks!
DBAHO
Nope, u can't unfortunately, which would make the draft a whole lot more exciting. I guess most ppl don't care who their team picks because they prob won't be playin for the major league ball club for a few years at least unless u r sum1 special like Prior. HuskyCaucasian
Prior to the last Collective Bargaining Agreement, there were talks about removing compensation picks, being able to draft picks, and make the draft a world wide draft. Unfortunately, to get the deal done to avoid a strike all those ideas had to be thrown out and they went back to the old system. In the CBA I would bet at the least the world wide draft will be instated.
Old Socks
Baseball has never allowed trading draft picks. When we had our last CBA negotiation (2002???), the owners werre supposedly going to get tough on drafting foreign players, but they got caught up in the steroid issue and capitulated like a bunch of morons. It blows my mind that we draft American kids, but if were lucky enough to be born elsewhere, you go to the highest bidder. No one group of people are dumber that baseball owners.
