  • The Sox Road ERA is 3.60 -- 3rd in the AL -- They also rank in the top 3 on the road in BAA, SLG, & OPS
  • Despite the good pitching splits on the road, The Sox have a losing record away from home
  • The sox Home ERA is 5.31 -- Next to last in the AL --
  • Despite bad pitching splits at home, The Sox have a winning record at home, only Anahiem and Texas have a better home winning percentage.
  • Scott Schoeneweis leads the team in Quality starts with 5 -- the others all have 3 -- DW obviosly had none.
  • Damaso Marte leads the AL in Blown Saves blowing 3 saves in 5 save opportunities -- David Riske and Curtis Leskanic have also blown 3 saves in 5 chances.
  • Billy Koch has blown 1 save in 6 opportunities.
  • Loiaza, Garland, and Buerhle all have recieved good run support, averaging over 6 runs per game. Shoeneweis has recieved less than 4 runs per game support
  • Jon Garland ranks 9th in the AL in ERA in innings 1-6 -- He has a 11.57 ERA after the 6th inning
  • The relievers have posted a 3.86 ERA, but have been utilized less than any other pen in the AL -- Oakland has the same #of IP out of the pen in one less game -- and we don't have the starting staff that oakland does.
Batting Stats
  • Sox lead the AL in HR's, yet rank 9th in Runs
  • Sox lead the AL in HR's, yet rank 10th in 2B's
  • Sox lead the AL in SH(bunts) with 15, detroit is second with 10

11 of those SH's came with runners in scoring position, (meaning the runner was moved to third), yet on the season the Sox have only 9 Sac Fly's. What's the point in getting the run over if you're not getting them in.

  • Sox have only grounded into 22 DP's -- they seem to be staying out of the twin killing more this year --
  • Our Leadoff hitter has batted .317 for the year, 3rd in the AL --
  • We have not hit well behind our leadoff man, however. The leadoff man has only scored 15 times in 30 games, tied for 12th of 14 AL teams
  • The #2 hitter has only hit a surprising .295, I thought it would have been higher with Uribe spending alot of time there :huh
  • #4 hitter has only driven in 14 runs -- Last in the AL
  • #5 hitter has only driven in 11 runs -- 13th in the AL
  • #9 hitter has driven in 20 runs -- 2nd in the AL -- also leads the AL in SH's from the 9-hole with 6.
  • as a team, the sox are batting .259 w/RISP -- while only hitting 9 of thier leage leading 42 HR's
  • Comparitively the Sox are batting .290 with none on, and have 27 HR's

This tells me we don't play worth a damn on the road. This team lives or dies with the offense. The pitching will not win the games for us.

It also tells me that we could see the same problems we saw last year with this bunch. Last year the Sox were about 4th or 5th in the majors for homers, yet were about 12th in the AL in runs scored. Not a good statistic.

Have you seen Big Thighs' road splits, esp with RISP? Sox just don't see the ball on the road for some reason. Staying on the ball longer, shortening of the swings and using the entire field may be the only remedy.

Garland falls apart in the 7th? Then get Kelly Wunsch back here and begin to make up for those innings. 3.50 ERA is always better than 11.00.

Marte blew 7 slaves in last season's first half alone. Kinda makes you appreciate Gagne more -- low era AND can save a game. Still Dambasso is the least of our worries. Until Sox get a big-time closer at the break, Cliff Politte is gonna have to pitch his ass off, and right now he is an unqualified failure. As is Koch.

Garland and Buerhle have been crap. With Mark, it started with him not running out that ball in the 1st against the Yankees.

259 with RISP won't get it done. I am not expecting 309, but 280 is a must.

Pitching is bad. Offense is unacceptably mediocre. If Sox keep this crap up, expect a big ass NOSE DIVE. Been there in 2002. And 2003.

The sweep in Toronto was but a mere warning shot across the bow of complacency. It was baseball gods' way of saying, "you motherf***ers better start bashing and raking like a playoff team should, or that 10-1 record in 1-run games will get reversed in no time".

Now let's go 5-1 in the next 6 games and build on that momentum. :headbang :cheers

I would say Koch qualifies as a failure.

I'm very concerned about that nosedive as well. I can see it happening if they don't start using their brains when in the batter's box.
