My 15 minutes of Fame

Recommended Posts

Posted this on another board  -- They were speculating that all fights were caused by cubs fans last night -- I guess they weren't -- I just copied and pasted cuz I don't feel like retelling the story, but thought you'd all like to hear it

I got my ass kicked at the stadium last night ---

- I am not a cubs fan -- This was my 5th game at the Cell this year

- I sat with two Baltimore fans to my right and three to my left in section 159 row 3

- When the game was thuroughly out of hand, the fans to my left, got up and never returned

- A group of 3 drunken frat boys replaced the polite Orioles fans

- The Frat boys had been removed, earlier in the game, from mulitple seats at the request of people around them/ the proper ticket holders

- They had been ragging on Larry Bigbie all night long -- Not that they new his first name -- or that they could come up with anythin more original than "Bigbie Sucks"

- While they proceeded to lay into bigbie in the 8th -- allong with the Orioles fans to my right -- I told them to "lay off Bigbie" - They were actually calling him "Bixby" -- I told them the Incredible hulk wasn't playing left field

- I informed them that Larry Bigbie grew up in Northern Indaina as a Sox fan and wears the number of his favorite player growing up, Harold Baines

- They were completely hammered. They had been removed from those seats after the 7th, and had trouble negotiating the stairs on thier way up to thier "proper" seats

- After I convinced them to leave Bigbie alone -- I became the center for thier misplaced rage

- I did little to provoke the attack -- I asked the usher to remove them, as they weren't sitting in thier proper seats, and had already been removed from those seats earlier in the game ---

- The Usher shook his head at me, and shrugged his shoulders, as if to say there wasn't anything he could do about it - rather there wasnt anything he cared to do about it

- at that point, seeing they weren't going to be removed by the usher, They became extremely aggressive towards me.

- I was expecting the usher to see that they were causing yet another disturbance and finally remove them, but that did not happen

- The one "frat boy" said "I'd rather get thrown out of here than have that 'N' move me from these seats" -- They had been looking for a fight all game, at this point I had no intention of giving them one - I thougt I had done the proper thing by telling the usher to remove them

- There were two guys in Row 4 directly behind the "frat boys" -- I didn't notice them, or say anything to them -- They were quiet and not disturbing anyone, even if they weren't in thier actually seats

- But that's where the troble came from -- One of the guys in Row 4 grabbed the sunglasses off of my head, and broke them into multiple pieces

- At that point, I have to admit, I lost it -- They were $180 sunglasses

- I can't give an accurate assesment of what happened from that point on -- It all went by very quickly. Also I spent most of the time on the ground, or stopping fists with my skull

------------------------------

I have serious issues with the security at the cell last night -- I was present for the Royals game last year too, and I thought last night was worse

I was never checked on by any of the White Sox staff after I had been thuroughly beaten

To my Knowledge, Security never even entered the aisle between 159 and 160, where the entire event occured

How far does someone to go to get tossed out of the game -- By all means I should have been last night (Although, not the instigator, I did throw a few punches, which should warrant a quick trip out of the stadium anywhere) -- But this group had been kicked out of multiple seats, Instigated a couple other small altercations, and even said aloud that they wanted to be kicked out

I don't know what happened to the group that attacked me, whether they were tossed out or not. I know I wasn't. I never left the section. And stayed until after the game -- I wanted to talk to security, to ask what was being done with those thugs, but my brother wisely advised me not to. He said that they were "looking for me, and threatened to take him to jail", although he did nothing, Including help me --

------------------------------------------

I know I don't post on this board, but I felt it important to get my story told --

Some background informaton on me -- I'm 24, I post prominently on another site ;), I had one beer at the game in the first inning -- So alcohol was not a contributing factor -- I generally go to about 10+ Sox games a year -- I don't go around looking for fights, and was not looking for one last night either -- I have not been in a fight since the sixth grade, and thats about what it felt like last night -- I'm ashamed to be linked to this incident -- I hated listening to talk radio on the way home last night --

I took quite a few lumps last night. I had "a minor concussion". Today the left side of my head is a little sore, but otherwise no worse for wear.

Other than that, how did you enjoy the game ;)

This is an excellent time to write a letter to guest relations, and security outlining everything. Too often the correct people are not given the proper information to make the proper decisions.

I'm crafting one tonight -- with the help of an english major -- I'm not a good writer -- tend to write in incomplete thought/sentances.

That sucks.

Its good that your okay, but I would write a letter to the White Sox about what happened and how you alereted security and they did nothing.

I mean its one thing to say they knew nothing, its an entirely different matter if some one points out where a problem is.

Hope you recover. Sounds like the usher that was in the section where I sat last year. Luckily we didn't get beat up by anyone, but we were harrassed by the usher through the entire game and the the kids that were in their late teens that sat in seats that weren't theirs (they had no problem announcing that to all in our section) didn't have to show their stub to him once.

Please do write to security at the park and note the section you were in - the usher should be at least suspended.

Cheat, I think I followed the story correctly, are you the one who these drunks took their aggression out on?

If it was you, you have my sympathies and a general societal apology for all the assholes everywhere.

Maybe I am opening a can of worms here, but this is exactly why I don't have a beef with ushers prohibiting people from sneaking into other seats.

Many times (not all, mind you) but many times, it's people with an entitlement mentality. People who think that when THEY go out to have fun, everyone else needs to conform to THEIR rules.

And that is total bulls***.

These are the same people who smoke in the seating area, and when you ask them to stop, it's "f*** you, pal".

Having been a season ticket holder for the Blackhawks in the first balcony, first row, on the aisle - here is the lesson I learned. If people insist on being assholes, don't even converse with them. Go directly to security. If you can't find security, ask the usher to get security. If the usher won't (which I've encountered at the ballpark, many are very young and just don't want to be bothered), take their name and badge number, and find someone else.

Let security do their job. It is awful tough to keep quiet in the presence of major assholes, but some of these drunk fratboy types think they're bullet proof. They are looking for a fight, and a story to tell all their other drunk fratboy friends.

Unfortunately, we will run into these types at any public gathering, especially sporting events.

I've just found that's the best way to handle things.

I hope you're doing ok physically and please know you are in the "right". As for those clowns, what goes around comes around.

That's just flat out ridiculous...No wonder people don't want to go to the park when things like this are happening.

I am sorry to hear that Cheat and I hope you are alright my friend. You mean a lot to this site and its posters. I only hope that you are not seriously hurt and that you are feeling better as soon as possible. To be attacked for no reason is nothing short of ridiculous.

thats just not fair.

My cousin attended a game this year against the Yankees and from the jist he told me, it sounded like the abuse him and his buddy recieved was just sick.

A guy turned around and just slugged him, apparently before my cousins freind had even talked to these people.

asshole Yankee fans... :stick

Not making light, but I hope you got in a few good shots. :fight

What parts of the stadium is this type of nonsense happening?

Perhaps the Sox should look at closing down the beer sales earlier in the game, say after the 3rd inning?

Something must be done, otherwise this is just going to alienate fans even more and when I read stuff like this, it hardly makes me want to make a five hour trip to be placed into a hostile environment.

The bleachers is where all this happened last night, usually it is there or the expances of the UD during big crowds (espesially during Cubs/Sox games)

I know that Steff, but are we really concerned about what happens elsewhere?

Just because it's happening elsewhere doesn't mean that we should just let it go.

upper deck

And people wonder why there's a restriction of not letting people go down to the lower part of the stadium with UD tickets...A few sour grapes ruin it for everyone, what a shame...

First off - Glad to hear you're not too banged up Cheat. We were in 148 just past 3rd base and had a pretty good view off all that was going on in the outfield, especially your problems with the drunks. I think I saw somewhere else that you said you had a red shirt on, if so, I can even remember seeing the guys jump you. It really sucks security wasn't more visable after the first few altercations last night.

We had some drunks in the section next to us that kept coming back to seats that weren't theirs and after the third time security finally entered the picture and threw them out.

Even Carlos could do nothing but shake his head at everything going on out there. Some yelled at him sarcastically to watch the game in the bottom of the 9th and he just grinned and tipped his cap.

It's sad that in a game where the Sox are kicking some ass, the only thing I was thinking about at the end was how bad The Cell took control of all the fights. It was completely ridiculous that after the first few fights more security wasn't brought in.

I just hope everyone else that was innocent and got mixed into something last night is also o.k.

I went and read the thread on WSI, are you going to be able to get anymore info on the guys who did this?  Hopefully at least they suspend or fire the usher who did s*** to help.  At least he should be contacting security.

Hangar over at WSI was sitting near me -- Apparently the guy who initially hit me/broke my glasses was a cubs fan. He fled after getting in a few good shots and nocking me over -- Hangar reported him to security -- I took off my regular glasses (and hid them under the bleachers while I was down) -- I got back up and began fighting with the rest of the crew ? I guess I can't really say what happened then -- I hit my head pretty good on the stairs when this one guy threw me down breaking the ruckus apart

beer sales ending after the third inning will never happen, too much money involved.

I know that, money is definitely more important that people getting beat up at the games and that's a damn shame...
