WHarris1
Wow that sucks. I hope you are doing ok. The security did suck last night there were many fights that all lasted for a decent amount of time.
Fotop
Well let me first say that I'm glad to hear you're alright Cheat...I was at the game last night (I was behind the plate though so I didn't have a good view of what was actually going on) and for being a fan that has being going to at least 20-30 games a year for the last nine years I'd have to say that last night was quite possibly the worst night for fights, maybe second to the Cubs v. Sox game last year when they had to clear out a whole section of the upper deck. What scares me though is the fact that this game really didn't have any lasting rivalries or any ill-will towards the opposing team. It was a half price night against the freakin' Orioles. Granted the problems with usher and security are scary too, don't get me wrong, however the fact that this was such a random night makes me believe that this could become a common trend. The sad fact is it is those like you Cheat (myself included in this group) who don't put up with ignorant fans who lack the proper knowledge yet continue to be jackasses are the ones who probably get hurt in this situation. I'm not saying I've gotten into a fight at the park, but I have done the same thing you did...corrected drunken fans on their stupid comments only to get them to lash out at me because their ego was hurt in front of their buddies/girlfriend/etc. Good thing for me is that I was young for the most part (I haven't done it in awhile) so how can one justify beating up a minor? Anyways, my point is this really needs to stop. I've always thought it was somewhat understandable at Cubs v. Sox games, just because tempers are high, egos are big, and the beer flows like water. Even though I believe it to be understandable I don't condone it, nor do I want to see it happen, but when I do it doesn't surprise me. But to have this happen on random nights (last night, royals' series, etc.) is a cause for concern. That is why I hope this issue is addressed before this gets to be something that is par for the course. This is obviously something we don't need, especially with the reputation the park already has in the media. Again Cheat, I'm glad to hear you are O.K. and hope that the guys that did this to you get what's coming to them whether it be jail or karma. whitesoxin'
Wow Cheat that sux. I hope your okay. Half price night bring way too many drunks to the park. Like last years game against the Royals on a monday sold out and the UD had so many fights. :headshake
FlaSoxxJim
Take a weapon next time. Anthing. Mace, pepper spray, whatever works. I used to think the crime was outside the park after the game. It makes me want to pull a Larry Goetz. Larry Goetz? The NL umpire from the 40s?? Wow, that is one obscure reference. Or, do you mean Bernard Goetz, aka the NYC Subway vigilante?? DonkeyKongerko
Could Cheat SUE the team? I would. You should Cheat or at least threaten to in your letter. I'm sure you have a few witnesses that could back you up and there is some serious negligence on the part of White Sox staff. Also, the disclaimers on the back of the ticket say nothing about random acts of senseless violence that you should have to put up with. I've seen fights before at the Cell obviously but usually it was between Sox/Cubs or other rival fans. I'm sorry this had to happen to you and I think you should try to get as much as you can from the situation.
Dick Allen
Could Cheat SUE the team? I would. I'm sure he could. Hopefully, he got some medical attention documented. My advice to you Cheat is to go to a doctor if you haven't already. He or she can document your injuries. I would think security should have had the perps arrested or at least detained and have their names. I'd press charges against them, sue them and sue the White Sox, and sue the security firm. If you have a concussion, Cheat, you are going to have a pretty good case.

CSF
Cheat: That sucks man. Hope you're okay and no worse for the wear. f***ing cowardly, beer-induced idiots. I'll probably be in the minority (and also because I rarely drink), but they need to shut down beer sales no later than the 4th inning. This isn't Wrigley Field, where 10% are watching the game and the other 90% are trying to get dates and get smashed at the same time. And as nice of a concept as it is, half priced nights have gotta go. The last incident at the Cell was on a half priced night. I'd rather pay full price and be one of 15,000 at the park than pay half with a full house. Too many people can't control themselves obviously. Yanking the half-price nights is not the right solution IMO. Putting more ushers and more security on for those nights, as well as hiring ushers willing to do their friggin' jobs. Those guys should not have been let into that seating section if they did not have tickets, it's that simple. Doing that one little thing keeps the "UD lowlife" out of the 100 level seating areas, and keeps all UD patrons from again being unfafairly singled out for retribution via park policy. The Beast
This is ridiculous. Security is a lackluster there, a laughing stock. I laugh my ass off because its silly. This one in perticular who looks like his ass is his face. He tells me to back off for autographs all the time, but like theres still time before the game to start. That usher who walks on the dugout usually screws it up, like on opening day, when I could have had an Ozzie Guillen autograph, but shes like no, that is for season ticket holders only. I was shocked to have this occur. I really hate the employees at USCF. Even on Opening Day they would not kick these annoying drunken Cub fans out of the fan deck in center field. This one mexican man and another guy were going at it...its not really that moral. They are really hard asses when it comes to foul balls as well. Yes, the young fans deserve balls over the babies and little children who don't appreciate it that much.

Yes, the young fans deserve balls over the babies and little children who don't appreciate it that much. I am a Yankee hater, but they have the best security there. At a recent boston-yankee game I attended, I sat 5 rows from the top of the upper deck and a screaming match broke out above me, it looked as if they were going to start throwing punches (how anyone could fight at the top of a very high, and steep upperdeck is beyond me), security ran up there instantly and escorted everyone involved out of the stadium. They also keep alcohol out of the cheap seats (bleachers), and follow it up with thorough pat downs, not just a torso rub. Perhaps the security officials at the cell could use Yankee stadium's staff as a model.
Chisoxfn
At Dodger games they don't sell alcohol in the bleachers, but they aren't attached to the rest of the stadium so its a pretty tough thing to enforce. Plus, I think most people would be upset. Personally I don't drink any beer at games, too damn expensive.
SnB
I was actually sitting in sec. 160 last night. After the 6th inning, me and my brother decided to move. The bleachers were ridiculous. So many drunken 20-something year olds there. Most never turned their head toward the game. The atmosphere in the bleachers was downright chaotic, was one of the worse experiences I've had at the cell in awhile. We ended up moving to the sec. right behind the RF foul pole until the top of the 8, when we left.

TLAK
We've only heard half the story, but I am very concerned about an usher just shrigging these guys off, usually they just mumble into the radio and about 12 security guys show up. Glad to hear you are OK. I may have missed it in the thread but did they do anything with the perps, I mean what you describe is battery, they should have been given a free ride to 26th street in a luxurious blue and white. You should certainly write your letter, maybe even contact a lawyer. The usher's conduct is not reasonable. Make the Sox management get to the bottom of this to your satisfaction. Don't want to intrude on your privacy but it would be good to share what comes of this.
Rex Kickass
Dude, what happened to you sucks. And its another unfortunate nail in the coffin of fan friendliness at the Cell. They have 15 security guards on the field and people who buy upper deck seats can't get to the main concourse but the ushers and security never seem to get close to doing their jobs with the fans. I sat behind home plate in the Premium Lower Box for the doubleheader. My ticket was never checked once. I sat in the Bleachers a couple years ago, and security was much better. This was before people were jumping into the field. Three people almost got into it but were still jawing and within 60 seconds, 6 security guards were there and calmed the situation. The Cell really is starting to live up to its name. Think about it, 100 level people go through two or three security gates and then cant get protection at their seat. Just like that OZ show or something.
SnB
To tell you the truth, when I got home from the game yesterday I was going to comment on something I noticed. I was going to talk about how there is never a shortage of workers at the cell, especially for food, cleaning, etc. I mean I went up to get some food before the game, and there were 5 cashiers standing there waiting for me. As the game progressed, the security issue became apparent. So it went from a very positive thought about the employees of the cell, to a very negative one, very quickly. quickman
This whole conversation disturbs me. I have no idea what is happening at ballgames anymore. I am sorry this happened to cheat.I know this is not a popular thought, but it seems as if many of these altercations come on half price night. Although good for many on this board, getting into the park for $9 bucks or whatever tends to draw scumbags. s*** i see 20 year olds going through the trash for an empty can of pop cause there to cheap to buy a can. I am all for people getting a good price, but the CELL has a rep and there are people who will come just to cause trouble, especially knowing nobody goes to jail. Sell cheap ticekts get cheap patrons. Sorry guys. I realize this is unpopular with many. I bet this won't happen in the playoffs. They could not afford to get in. WillieHarris2
they should try hiring security or ushers that will acctually get off there asses and take control of the situation. what happened last night was just ridiculous, gotta feel bad for that guy.
