WHarris1
Yeah, wow, that wasn't even close at the end.
danman31
That was amazing. I don't know if the horse can keep up that pace, but with a lead like that the Belmont might not be long enough to burn him out. I was really surprised and impressed with Rock Hard Ten who had some real trouble getting into the gates, but was still able to finish 2nd from an outside position. whitesoxin'
Pardon my lack of horse racing knowledge, but isn't that the second leg of the triple crown for Smarty Jones? If so I know Funny Cide did that last year and came up short at the Belmont Stakes right?

Other than that what you said was right. The Belmont Stakes (3rd leg of Triple Crown) is hard to win after winning the first 2 races because it's so much longer. The Derby and the Preakness are more short distance races as compared to the long distance Belmont. But if Smarty Jones runs like he did today he will win the Belmont without trouble. 7 3/4 lengths is a long distance to blow and it looked like he was only going faster. Heads22
Yeah Funny Cide won the Derby and the Preakness last year and lost in the Belmont which War Emblem won.
Gene Honda Civic
I beleive the same horse has won the first two legs of the triple crown in 5 of the last 6 years --- That's just from memory though, so I could be wrong -- The Belmont is much longer. Funny Cide won the Preakness in just as impressive fashion last season, but wasn't able to go the full distance at the Belmont.
witesoxfan
IIRC, didn't Funny Cide have like the worst starting position you can have? And didn't he stumble a little bit in the middle of the race? And didn't he end up getting Show(I think that's 3rd place) even after that?

The 7 3/4 lengths the 2nd place horse was behind Smarty Jones was a record......
