Gene Honda Civic
Now if Diaz and Garland would be pitching, those would have been runs. Those two pitchers have combined to give up 26 runs -- ALL EARNED -- get another theory.

SoxAce
Now if those errors, would have cost us alot of runs, this topic would be worthless. Luckaly, Buehrle was in the zone today and worked around it. I guarantee you, if this was last year, it would have been an ugly inning.

Luckaly, Buehrle was in the zone today and worked around it. I guarantee you, if this was last year, it would have been an ugly inning. Except all of Jose's errors last year did not exceed just one Uribe f*** up THIS year (I think on Vizquel's chopper) that led to 5 runs. Kelly Dranfelt had a 4-run error, which incidentally 1 more than 8 of Jose's errors this year combined. [/perspective] PS I do agree agree Manos assumes he has an out before the ball is in the glove WAAAY too much. Most of his errors are extremely avoidable. In fact, the tougher the play the more likely he is to make it.......Still, it helps to keep things in perspective. As long as he doesn't exceed 20 errors, he'll be a good SS when things like arm, range and DP are tallied up. He's gonna have to bear down in the next couple of months, that's for sure. WSoxShuf
An error is an error. We got lucky this did not cost us. Teams like Minny thrive off errors and walks.
BrandoFan
An error is an error. That's just stupid. That's like saying a single is a single. Unless of course you think that pitchers work harder to make up for Jose's errors versus other SS and that's why his error-to-run ratio has been surpinsgly low since 2000. We had a crappy staff in 2000, and yet his 30+ errors led to, what, 7-8 runs. That's very good. Last year, it was even less. This year, his +/- is at only at -3 and I fully expect Jose to improve like he did last year from roughly mid-May on. Ands then you start counting how many "runs" he "saves" with above-average plays.....it evens out at the end, trust me.

WSoxShuf
no, I am calling Jose a clown. If he were to make an error that cost us a run that lost a game, this place would be up for grabs.
Wise Master Buehrle
I agree with Brando. Jose has made some nice plays on hard to make plays, while sometimes botching a routine grounder or something. ALthough I wish he could be perfect and never mess up, this does somewhat even out in the end.\ NOw only if he could consistently hit .

BrandoFan
If he were to make an error that cost us a run that lost a game, this place would be up for grabs. And? Jose is the third most hated Sox after Koch and Konerko, so of course any serious f*** up will be magnified. Let's put it this way: Kirk Hinrich is a good defender despite a somewhat low steal-per-game and a high foul-per-game. What does it mean? It means that there is way more to defense than just errors -- you have to look at Total Defense, which in baseball should factor in range, arm and aggresiveness. Example from today: One of the balls Jose had an error on, Guzman didn't even bother tryng to bend for. But whatever, I am content in that you're gonna see Jose in the line-up almost every day and you hate his guts.
BrandoFan
And limit his strikeouts.. I dunno about you, but I'd rather have a 5-6+ pitch Jose K than a 1-pitch Crede pop-up or a Konerko GIDP. back atcha

NUKE_CLEVELAND
ZERO. Just goes to show how overrated errors really are That may be the case today but he was totally sloppy in the field today. The only reason the 5 million dollar E-6 doesn't get a full on rant is cause he hit the ball real well today.
BrandoFan
That may be the case today but he was totally sloppy in the field today Guess what? He is always sloppy, overwhelming majority of his errors are of routine variety -- just like our hitters try to hit a 2-run HR with noone on base, Jose tries to get 2 outs before the ball is even in the glove. Sometimes it misfires. Last May Santana got on his ass big-time and Jose only comitted 8-9 errors the rest of the way, including 2004 Spring Training (covering some 5.5 months). Now he has reverted to same old taking the eye off the ball crap. Paging Santana!

aboz56
Jose makes me sick period...We can't get rid of this guy soon enough. I could care less how many runs he cost us with today's errors, his defense is piss poor and regardless of the stats you provide or "range" you claim that he has, I won't be convinced otherwise. Quit being fooled by your love for pornstache and open your eyes and realize that the guy SUCKS. That DP ball he booted today was right at him and ROUTINE and he backhands it and boots it...Why is he backhanding a ball that is right in front of him? Is he afraid to get hit with the ball? Get in front of the ball and make the play...And this guy is a professional...Come on. A great SS makes that play in his sleep and pornstache drops it and then makes another error. And let's also not forget that Juanny boy has a better arm than stache.
