Where is he going to end up this year, will the put him in Birmingham, or throw him right into Charlotte. Personally, since he lost some gas towards the end of the season last year in Kannapolis, I think he should stay in AA with the Barons this year. Hopefully he'll have that mid-nineties fastball back to go along with that deadly knucklecurve.

Just age and experience...

He could make the jump witha huge spring, but as high as they are on him, and without an immediate need in Chicago, I don't see them pushing him.

More likely, if he gets to Birmingham this year it will be at least halfway through.

Of course, all that said, an injury or two at higher levels can cause all kinds of domino effects and change everything.

i went to providence with honel he has an amazing knuckle curve which is an odd pitch in the big leauges. he should easily make his way to birmingham if he doesnt end up there in the first place. i saw him not to long ago and he said he is fine and healthy.

I think Mike Mussina also throws a knuckle curve. I've heard it's somewhat less stressful on the elbow than a traditional curveball.

when i went to school with honel he was somewhat of hot head but, he could be because he was the best prospect in the mid west. and i have seen him after he graduated and he is still a hot head to some degree but not as much as he was in high school. he is maturing and i think that he will be a stud pitcher one day (hopefully soon)

All I know about Kris is he's a damn talented pitcher and I'm excited to see how he continues to develop.  As I wish on all of the White Sox pitchers.

they better darn develope .....and do it good, or were going to be so screwed...........replenishing the farm has got to be a number 1 on kw's list of to do's..... hes taken most of the talent we had and put them up or out......if these next group of kiddos doesnt do something outstanding were sunk for a few seasons to come.......cause we know full right well when these guys who are up here are in the position of making any kind of good money they will be dumped like yesterdays news............

The thing we need to keep in mind about some of these kids, and especially ones drafted right out of HS.

Think of taking a random group of 30 HS seniors and what the maturity levels would be like. You'd find a few that are pretty mature and have a good head on their shoulders, a few that are complete idiots (maybe more than a few) and a lot that are decent kids, just immature and not wise to the ways of the world. Most 18 yr olds think they know everything.

Now think of that group in terms of elite athletes. Think of thirty 18 yr olds that have been the best at their sport (and often multiple sports). They have always been the best, told they were the best and more often than not treated differently than regular, less talented players. Youth and HS coaches tend to coddle these guys. These guys usually have a tendency to be full of themselves at a higher rate than the first group.

Then, take one of those kids, give him more than a million dollars. He gets written up in every baseball publication imaginable and fans immediately want to know how fast he can make it to the Big Leagues. Then, put him on the road, away from home, with other like 18 yr. olds, let him travel to different cities where he is the center of attention and where he can get laid in any city he wants, without really trying and where he can get drunk just about any time he wants.

Think about all of that, and try to translate that into an 18 yr old you know. I suspect you wonder how these kids ever get anything positive accomplished. These kids read their own press clippings, drive that new $40,000 SUV and live a life most 18 yr olds would never know.

The bottom line is all of these factors contribute to a pretty high rate of disappointments. Some kids take longer to mature than others. Some never do. I don't know Kris Honel and this is not geared toward him, but it is to make a point that we often think these kids are emotional machines or that they have the maturity of a 25 or 30 yr old. We shouldn't be surprised if a kid doesn't improve each and every year and has a setback.

Enough rambling, I hope the point has been made......
