former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. William Crowe, Gen Hugh Shelton, Gen John Shalikashvili.

 

former Army undersecretary Joe Reeder,

 

former Defebnse Secretaries William Perry and William Cohen,

 

Maj General Charles Bolden,

 

Merck, IBM, General Motors, Microsoft, Steelcase, Procter and Gamble, Intel, and Banc One,

 

and I

 

all agree?

 

 

I think you say that if a group like that is all in agreement, they must be right because that is the most unusual coalition you ever see.

 

And what do we agree on?

 

And you better be damn careful before you of all people call those military people wrong ---

 

 

we all agree that the University of Michigan policies need to be upheld by the Supreme Court.

 

A lot of current generals, admirals, and other such currently serving also support the UM policy but could not sign the briefs filed with the court because of Bush's position - but they were ready to sign -

 

so when the military and I agree, when corporate America and I agree - damn it we are right!!!!!!!!!!! Case closed!!!!!!!!

Wonder why the military and corporate America agree with Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, U of Chicago, Duke, and 14,000 law students from 143 law schools all agree and have filed briefs to that effect?

 

a) because we want to piss you off

B) because everything follows the Bakke case which ended quotas but affirmed diversity as a educational goal

c) because at the press conferance yesterday corporate America says they don't even want to consider anyone not educated in a system like Michigan's because someone educated without diversity is not educated and of no use to them in the real world

d) because we are right!!

 

 

Now as the generals and admirals and Bill Gates and I go walking off together, arms linked, singing Kum Ba Ya, we smile because we know you aren't telling Gen Norman Scharzkopf to his face that he is wrong!

my answer to the question of the michigan admission policy, and you can look this up in our other conversation a few days ago..was to admit everyone under the same standard..then check to see how diverse it was..if it didnt meet the divisity standards then whatever number of minorities were needed to make it diverse enough would be added...im sure a school as big as michigan would be able to handle the extra students...

 

now if michigan adopted my addmision policy do you think any of those men would disagree with it???.. i dont think so..why you seem to think im against diversity i dont know..because i didnt agree with how michigan ran their policies doesnt mean im against diversity...or in today's politcal climate maybe it does...seems like no one is allowed a dissenting opinion anymore w/o getting labled something or another...

 

and if i did run into schwartzkopf and for some ungodly reason he was actually interested in my POV on this subject...id tell him that i disagree with his POV i think i have a better way of doing it where no one gets left out...tell him what i just told you and hopefully he would be open enouigh to see what im saying...
