Rowand44
:headshake This would be the worse mistake we could make. 3 LH's in the starting rotation = last place finish. Too many LH's are bad bad bad bad bad....did I mention BAD! I hope Coop is right and Diaz will be back in a few weeks because I hate to see Cotts have his career ruined because he would be a third left hander leaving us powerless to win any games at all. We would become the Royals instantly. What a nightmare. :headshake :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke The royals starting pitching is bad not because they have a lot of lefties but because their starting pitchers just suck. DonkeyKongerko
It sounds like this is a very temporary move. Most would agree Cotts being a lefty and more experienced stands a much better chance against the Twinkie lineup than Diaz. Sounds like Felix will be back soon, possibly after this trade we are all thinking about.
YASNY
I'm thinking something is in the works, as far as a trade goes, and starting Cotts on Saturday is just a stop gap measure until the trade gets done. The fact that Cooper said "He's still in the bullpen." clues me in to that scenario.
qwerty
It just seems stupid to me to plan to have your starting pitcer pitch only five innings. Because then the bullpen is gonna have to be used alot more than u would normally want. But i guess they do have Adkins and jackson down there. They don't want to hurt this good young lefty by stretching him out too far in his first start.

Why not have him throwing on the side alot more to build up arm strength.

I think this a one time, stop gap measure to get us through this weekend. The Sox will figure out their best option from there and I think that will be a trade. I also think that they feel they are close to having a deal with someone.

They may try this scenario for a couple of outings to string Cotts out. I think they feel there is a trade in the works to solve the problem long term. I gotta imagine that it isn't an inning thing, but a pitch count thing. I bet they keep him in the 60-70 pitch range, tops.
mreye
Does anyone (else) think that (if this is true) KW is bringing up Wunsch so he can "showcase" him to trade him away? Absolutely not. I think he's been "showcased" the last 3 or 4 years.
Wong & Owens
Absolutely not. I think he's been "showcased" the last 3 or 4 years. He may need to show the league that Wunsch is healthy though. In any case, if Cotts is moving to the rotation, then they need another reliever to step into Cotts' spot. Wunsch is the logical(and probably best) choice for that. Harry Chappas
The continued decline of Damaso Marte may lead to Cotts having to be moved back to the pen. I wonder what the trade value of marte would be????

I thought about that, but I think he's come back from minor injury before and been efficient.

I think this Cotts thing is a one shot deal, unless a trade falls through. I'm glad to see they were proactive on Diaz though, he just didn't show enough to stick around. WSox30
I'm excited to see Cotts start again. I honestly think he'll be our starter for the rest of the year. All he needs is a solid first start and he'll be fine. I'm happy they said he's a temporary replacement for Diaz though. I think felix deserves another chance eventually as im sure most of you agree. I hope your kidding, damaso is stuggling right now but for the most part he's still producing and once damaso gets back to his old self which he will, the sox will again have the best left handed reliever in the american league.
