Would the Orioles Deal Gibbons?

I don't know what the Orioles needs are, but Jay Gibbons is a semi young, power hitting left handed bat that plays very good defense. He seems like he has a good attitude and I think he'll only get better. He won't win an MVP and may not make a ton of all star games, but he should hit .270-.280 with 30 HR and 90-100 RBI for a good offense.

He doesn't make much money or at least I don't think he does and he would definately add some left handed pop. I know Konerko wouldn't really fit in the Orioles lineup but I think Carlos Lee could.

I know the Orioles were talking about moving Gibbons to the Dodgers during spring training and he hasn't been hot yet this season. I wouldn't deal Lee for Gibbons straight up but if the Sox could get another good player in return it would be interesting. I doubt they could get a Jorge Julio or someone in those lines in return as well or even a Kurt Ainsworth but if they could it could really help this club.

Heck, even if the Sox could give them some pitching prospects for Gibbons (I don't know if the O's are looking for prospects though).

A rule 5 guy that has emerged as a solid player.  I like Gibbons, but with his relatively cheap price tag, I don't see the O's wanting to part with him.

I agree, Gibbons would be a great guy to have on the sox but I don't think the o's will want to part with him right now.

Gibbons is making 3 Mill and it will probably swell to 4-5 in 2005 should he have any kind of a "break-though".....He aint particularly cheap is what I am sayng.

He won't be a significant defensive improvement over Lee - definately inferior on the base-paths or at the plate. His upside is much less than Lee's.

You want a LH stick? How about Palmeiro? Can't hit lefties anymore, so you use Paulie. But against RHP, he's been absolutely lethal this year. Only makes 4 Mill which won't cost you that much at the Break if you throw in prospects.

Of course an ace pitcher is still by far the biggest need, but one and the other aren't mutually exclusive.

I would love Gibbons here on the sox. A left-handed, young player who can hit for a decent average, power, and plays alittle above average defense. Alittle pipe dream though cause I know we won't get him, but an interesting player to talk about nonetheless.
