Butter Parque
KW, its time to get the SP. If we want to maintain a share or a whole of that division then we need to go out and get Freddy Garcia. I'm through waiting with our god awful farm system. It stinks and its time to revamp that too. Give up Lee and a minor leaguer and lets get a real ace for this staff. No one wants to come to the park to see Jason Grilli pitch. (Please don't say he's next to come up) Freddy will bring more people to the park instead of the dozen you get now. If you want to make a playoff push then get yourself an ace.
YASNY
I saw Garcia pitch in Texas. He was lights out for 7 innings, but unfortunately for him, he pitched into the 8th. As far as Garcia putting butts in the seats, ummmm ... we ain't talking Koufax here.
southsider2k5
This isn't MVP. You can't just go out and make a deal in a vaccuum. The other teams just aren't ready to deal yet, and short of waaaaaaaaaay overpaying, there isn't anything KW can do about it.
Guest JimH
It will likely take more time than all of us want. If I am KW, and based on his past experience, here's what I'm thinking ... How can I add to this pitching staff without giving up a key offensive cog from the current team? That might mean having to wait, or giving up some prospects, likely both. I've been as frustrated as any with Carlos Lee and Konerko, but I'm just not in a hurry to trade either right now. Both have considerable talent, and both have proven they can get really hot and carry a team for a week or two. They need a starting pitcher, a left handed bat, and better production at 3B. The left handed bat is likely sitting in Charlotte, I don't doubt Crede will turn things around. My guess is KW is waiting to add without having to subtract. elrockinMT
We have tried Diaz and moved Cotts from the bullpen, which was probably a mistake. I think if we need the 5th starter on Saturday that we either let Cotts do it again, or bring up Rausch or Munoz from the minors. Any trade right now would be a panic move in my opinion and especially when folks start throwing names like Lee, Konerko and Maggs in there. We would get fleeced and why are we trading any of our top hitters for someone we need as a #5 starter? The team has a real good balance right now and all you hear is break up the line up and get some pitcher, any pitcher. Calm down people! Guest JimH
Yes, agree. Williams has shown he will add to the team when the price is right and they feel they've got a shot. I think we all agree this team has a good shot at the division. On another note, there is a thread at WSI where they're talking about a supposed "big announcement" that Brooks Boyer, new Sox PR guy, alluded to on the Channel 9 sports show two weeks ago. He emailed one of the posters back, and said to sit tight, that he (Boyer) is on the marketing side and not the baseball side, and intimating he could not make any such announcement because he's on the marketing side. Meaning, it will be a baseball related announcement. At least that's how I read it. Prediction: Ordonez signs a long term deal soon. Jason called this about 3 weeks ago, I think it will happen within 10 days.

Without moving a salary, the SP the Sox need won't be coming. [A top of the rotation guy] That key LH bat also won't see time in Chi. without a trade of a big bat. The question then becomes which bat [and glove, intangibles, etc] is most expendable? It has to be Carlos. The Sox have many options at LF. Borchard, Reed, Gload, Perez, Rowand all can move around between CF and LF based on who is hot. [Though a decision would be made on Joe B or Reed coming up to replace Lee] Lee has talent. Yet the Sox have Frank, Maggs, Pk, and Crede who can do much of what Carlos gives the Sox. Lee just can't justify a $9 mill salary next year. His staying means Maggs likely would be going. Moving Carlos makes a SP attainable. And allows the Sox to make their lineup more versatile. Maybe a Frank Catalanotto could be acquired in July to balance the lineup if in house options don't pan out. But without moving salary or a spot in the lineup, the changes most fans want won't be coming

That would be pretty huge as far as the future direction of the team. I hope you are right.
hammerhead johnson
Lee just can't justify a $9 mill salary next year. Exactly. And people try to come up with trade scenarios involving Lee?
beck72
Exactly. And people try to come up with trade scenarios involving Lee? Lee could justify his $6 mill salary this yr and $9 mill next yr on a team in need of a slugger. Some team who can let him swing for the fences no matter the count, who will swing at ball four. A team like Sea. isn't going to completely rebuild. The 3 mill + fans won't stand for a complete rebuilding. They need to get younger, w/ Edgar, Olerud about to start collecting social security. Lee has talent. Just not with the baseball smarts the Sox need.
