CubKilla
most coaches and managers sucked as players..what made nardi qualified was he was best friends with jerry manuel...thats a good reason huh?? Nardi is the only example I can think of where I wish JM would have listened to Lou Pinella. Pinella didn't call Nardi the "worst pitching coach in baseball" for no reason. :fyou NARDI
doubleM23
He got hired because he was JM's friend.

Jim Fainter
Re: Marti. I will reiterate what Cubkilla said. I was in Seattle when Lou P. fired Marti. Then a year or two later he resurfaces with our Sox? I couldn't believe it. Lightning struck twice. He messed up the Seattle staff big time, which apparently qualified him to do the same for us. There are some things about baseball I will never understand, and our hiring Marti was one of them.
Soxfest
Seattle fired his ass , he is terrible with the rest of sox Management
Jim Fainter
If he was hired solely because he is a life long buddy of JM and not because of his qualifications, then Jerry should be taken to task and have his ass chewed out publicly. witesoxfan
Friends don't let friends coach and make asses of themselves. Unless you're Jerry Manuel and your friend is Nardi or Waving Wally! As for crappy players being good coaches....I can only think of a few good coaches that were also good players....Joe Torre(though his job is actually quite easy)....Lou P, Dusty Baker, Mike Scoscia, Bob Brenly....maybe a few others as well....there were also some decent players that turned out to be s***ty coaches....like Don Baylor for example. BigHurt4evah
Yeah you guys can say that again. I never liked Nardi or wavin' wally. I mean who waves in Frank Thomas rounding second when the ball's already in the infield?? ugh... poor guys. I think it also shows how much better the Sox are than the Cubs by their manager last year being our 3rd base coach

I agree with the quote by SoxFavForever on this one. Friends don't let friends do that. But WiteSoxFan... what's wrong with Wavin' Wallie. I loved Wavin' Wallie, he was great. He was good at what he did... waving people home !!

I think thats why KW had to finally force him out of town. Jerry didn't ever want to fire him since they were such great buddies. I wonder if KW wanted him out of there way before that. I kind of think he did, but didn't have enough pull at the time since Manuel was coming off a manager of the year award.
