Rex Hudler
I know this could belong on the Minor League board, but it seemed relevant since we don't yet know who the starter will be for Saturday's Sox game. Grilli is scheduled to start tonight per the Minor League scoreboard on Sportsnetwork, yet apparently, Yofu is getting the call. I went back and looked at Charlotte's rotation and apparently they are 6-deep right now (not including Pacheco who is on the DL) so I am not sure what that means. Under a normal rotation, Grilli would have been due to pitch last night, which would have also put him right on schedule for Saturday, so that is probably not what the Sox are up to. It wouldn't make sense to have him going into the rotation without him being on a regular schedule. The weird part of it is, Yofu is now going on 3 days rest when they have six starters, so I have no clue what the hell they are doing. Their past six games: 5-24 Stewart 5-23 Diaz 5-22 Kohlmeier 5-21 Yofu 5-20 Rauch 5-19 Grilli Any thoughts??
Soxbadger
Rauch? Counting today should of been his start. And if he did start today, hed only have 4 days of rest for saturday. You know his stats better than me. But that is my logical guess. Or Rauch is being traded. SB
Chisoxrd5
UHHHHHHHHHHHH.....You would have to be Sherlock Holmes pipe to make sense out of what they are doing with that starting rotation.... I really couldnt see Grilli coming up to the bigs right now because some of his walk totals in recent games have been flat out ghastly... beck72
Didn't the Sox skip Diaz' last start and had him throw out of the bullpen for an inning or so before he was called up? I'd say Rauch should be throwing a few innings in the bullpen in Char. this week to be strong for Sat.
southsider2k5
Sounds like Rauch or Grilli. Ozzie had a thing for Grilli in the spring, but it is really Rauch's turn. It looks like either one of them could be starting on Saturday.

This would be a make or break call-up for him if that is indeed the case.
Guest JimH
The option is for the full year, correct me if I'm wrong Rex. As for the 5th starter ... the butler did it with a candlestick in the library. In other words, I have no Clue. If I had to guess, I would say Rauch. They do need to find out once and for all what they've got with this guy. AngelasDaddy0427
I've always liked Rauch. The guy has talent. Plus at his height he is just such an imposing figure on the mound! BRING HIM UP! Of course that being said he needs at least 2 or 3 starts to be givin a fair shot. You can't throw a guy in his first start back at the best offense in baseball and expect instant success. Correct, we already sent down Rauch once this season, so we can call him up and send him out all we want until next season.

BrandoFan
Oh ok, so they decided to have Rauch up and Cotts back him up? Good, that's what they should have done.
Guest JimH
Seems to me it depends on who actually gets the start down there tonite. Unless there's some injury situation down in Charlotte we don't know about, their juggling the rotation leads me to believe somebody is getting called up. Take Cotts's name plus all the potential candidates in the minors , tack their names up on a roulette wheel & have Ozzie spin it to decide who goes in the 5th slot for us. CWSGuy406
For the Minor-League gurus, I don't recall what Rauch throws - so, what does he throw? What's his velocity at, etc etc? A mini scouting report would really be appreciated, thanks for anyone who can pull one up for me. Thanks.

BRILLIANT!! YOU'RE IDEA?! BRILLIANT! Seriously though we need to find a fifth starter, and soon. Otherwise we're in deep s***. What's rauch throw? -- About 5 innings -- about a HR a game What's his Velocity? -- Not what it used to be I don't expect him to be around this organization passed the trade deadline. And this is coming from someone who thought he would make the rotation before ST.

I can't really say -- All I can say is that I fell that in the rare occurance that he does wear a sox uniform this season, it won't be for long. I just believe that he would have already gotten the shot if KW didn't have something else in the works.
Jordan4life_2007
Unless we plan on trading him, i'm all for Rauch gettin a shot. Time to see what we have in this guy.
Guest JimH
Rauch = fastball which used to top out at 92, probably doesn't any more. He throws a changeup and a curve, don't know about a slider but I remember that being in his arsenal. When I saw him in spring training, he couldn't get the curve over so he went with fastballs and changeups, with the occasional cut fastball. SoIL
Rauch pitched an inning for Charolette tonight. That seems to be the pattern for a call up.
Chisoxfn
Welcome aboard SoIL. Jim, I don't know if Rauch is throwing the slider anymore. After his labrum injury he stopped throwing it and I had heard mixed reports on whether he's throwing it again or not. Prior to the injury it was considered a plus pitch. That along with his good curveball and solid fastball made him difficult to hit.
