Mr. Showtime Posted May 27, 2004 Share Posted May 27, 2004 Didn't Elo pretty much burn out at the end of last season (luckily he heated back up) but he wasn't near as good in general his last 4-5 starts. They aught to turn this one over to Koch and save Elo's arm. He's been one of the hardest worked pitchers all season. Loazia looked bad at the end of last year because teams started to lay off that cutter. I'm sure a year of wear on the arm had some effect, but that was what my expert eye saw. As long as he can keep his fastball in the 85-87 range, he will be a good pitcher. That also assumes he can continue to have good control. I know that he can pitch anoth 5-8 years most likely but i'm just saying if he was here a while ago he may have done some special things. Damn, I was thinking with the runner on that it would mean the guy in the hole could tie the game which would make it a save situation. I've never quite figured out when its a save and when it isn't. That being said, if he performs well in a few more situations, maybe with a little more pressure, I would not mind seeing him as our closer. Some players just seem to get up for the big moments, and you could see Shingo enjoyed closing the game. If you put yourself in a save situation, you can not get a save. He is not the winning pitcher Any one of the following is true: He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches one inning, OR He enters the game with the potential tying run on base, at bat, or on deck, OR He pitches at least three innings effectively.
