#22 Farm System

Good to see Top Prospect alert was right to add Honel to a prospect to watch. Too bad they f***ed this up though. No way our farm system is number 22 in all of baseball. I can think of 4 or 5 right off the top of my head that are much worse than ours. Alas..... I don't put much faith in lists anyway.

And some of the guys that they have as rated prospects (Rauch and Olivo) should be with the Big League team come Opening Day.

And that scares me, especially if we are contending this year and JR gives KW the green light to make a few trades. Since KW has thrown in 2 or 3 minor leaguers (and some good ones; see Joe Valentine) in every deal for the past year and one-half to two years, he may very well trade away the future if the White Sox are in serious contention this year in an "All or Nothing" approach to winning the WS. God knows KW has been bamboozled before.....

I bet Billy Beane is hoping and praying for a great White Sox season

thats exactly the point on why we are so far down the line on the prospect list and rankings for our farm system... what kills me is that jr being the big homegrown type of guy he is.....let kw get away with trading off all the top talent...........kw started his term with a division winning major league team and a #1 ranked farm system.... see how fast it faded away under his control........and you guys wonder why i cant stand him as gm..........

basically we are calling up 5 prospects this year..plus we got rid of valentine for two guys that arnt nearly as rated as high as him....we have no catching propect at all in the sytem now..our SS and CF prospects arnt due until '06 at the earliest...overll our outfield prospects dont look to strong once joe arrives...

pitching still looks pretty deep and is the strongest part of the system...but it is thinning as each year goes on...

last year we were about 15 , right??...this year after losing alot of prospects to call ups and valentine to a trade dropping 7 spots is about right...time to reload the system with a good draft this year....

also KW shouldnt trade away players at the deadline (especially trades like durham for adkins)he thinks he cant resign..let them go and take the sandwich pick..thats how billy beane operates on a budget like our or less and still keeps oakland very competitive...he gets 2 or 3 first round or sandwich picks every year...that pays off after awhile...

My thoughts exactly(UNLESS it is a player like Lofton that we are trading and we would be getting two pretty good arms in return).

It wouldn't hurt getting a good defensive catcher that is coming out of college....give him 2-3 years, and he would be able to be up. Also in that round we could be getting a very, very good player with raw talent.

And every once in a while, you'll get lucky and get a 38th round draft pick and he turns out to be your ace. :D

Damn! Why weren't you guys here when that trade was made? Everyone ripped on me saying that we'd have gotten nothing for Ray if we didn't trade him. I was saying we'd be better off with the pick instead of a 6.+ ERA pitcher in Adkins. :headbang

I have to agree that cubkilla and baggio were all over that trade when it happened and that all these months later, they look more and more right - has Adkins showed us anything?

I think the question then was would there be compensation under the terms of the not yet then completely negotiated labor agreement - there might not have been a draft pick for losing a free agent was the rumor then for the new contract - on the one side - but on the other, has Adkins showed us anything? is a question on the other side of the equation -

So I am thinking cubkilla and baggio are looking very wise in retrospect on top of their usual wisdom revealed on a daily basis.

First off, if you have any minor league team win a championship you should get some extra respect and i think we had two of them (Birmingham and Bristol, no?)

That's why we're so low... We're really thin at the top now and very bottom heavy, but I will give KW credit that he's doing an amazing job rebuilding the system from the bottom up.

I think the only defense of KW there is that during the labor negotiations last year, it was looking like compensation for lost FAs was going to be abolished.

Still... Adkins? What the f***?
