If we are dreaming, the Big Unit.

Dreaming? It's been 86 years.

Overpay for Garcia and watch him phone it in, Colon-style. In 2002 and 2003, his road ERA was 4.75. Right now he is surpsingly effective against left-handed hitters, but I have a feeling this anomaly is gonna correct itself before long, with his ERA jumping back to 4.00 where it feels more confortable...

Get Randy Johnson. Arizona is dying a last place death. They won't re-sign him. Timing will never be better. Unit still got it, although at this point, in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs, a 90-100 pitch limit will have to be imposed.

I've heard enough bulls*** about "committment to winning" in the last 3 years. All the while Todd Ritchie, Bill Kotchie and a washed-up Robbie is what we got. Give Arizona some good prospects and have them pick up part of his salary. That means with 3 months left, Uncle Jerry iz gonna have to pay about 4-5 Mill. Oh agonizing price of glory....

Jason Jennings could be an option from Colorado possibly, found this on trade rumors about him and Seattle.

The Mariners have informed clubs that they are" open to anything," according to two major league executives. That means the M's would field offers not only for RHP Freddy Garcia, but also 2B Bret Boone, RHP Gil Meche and possibly RHP Joel Piniero. Trading a young starting pitcher might be the only way for the Mariners to obtain young position talent, and the team is deep in possible pitching replacements at Class AAA. Boone, 35, could appeal to the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees, but he would represent the Mariners' only power threat next season if Edgar Martinez retires. Some teams also would balk at his contract; Boone's $9.25 million option for 2005 will vest if he makes 500 plate appearances, or the team can exercise his option for $8.25 million. The Padres, trying to obtain a young starting pitcher, are targeting Meche; Rockies RHP Jason Jennings could be another possibility.

The White Sox represent another possible trade partner for the Mariners. G.M. Ken Williams badly wants to add a starting pitcher, but he likely would want Seattle to assume at least part of Garcia's $6.875 million salary and include a young player if the Sox were to part with a major league-ready outfield prospect like Joe Borchard or Jeremy Reed. Borchard, a former No. 1 pick, was named the Class AAA International League Player of the Week for May 17-23 after he hit .452 with five homers and 18 RBIs. The White Sox have two other top outfield prospects, Ryan Sweeney and Brian Anderson, in Class A. . . .

I mentioned Meche and Pineiro yesterday, and while there are concerns about Meche and both are struggling, I would take both.

Here's a possible 5th starter option, and it won't cost us anythin. Not too high on him though,

Rick Helling, who planned on being in the Twins' rotation by now, has been phased out of their plans now that Seth Greisinger is the fifth starter. Helling likely will end up elsewhere

:o :o PLEASE!!!

Helling sucks He's a flyball pitcher and that's the same reason many here don't wan't garcia. I mean he couldn't even stick with the injured twins :headshake

I'm of the mindset that this division will be easily won by the Sox regardless of whether or not we acquire a serviceable veteran pitcher to man the 5th spot. Keep auditioning kids. Someone has to have some balls. :huh

Freddy Garcia is not going to improve our chances of winning a World Series. I mean, let's not kid ourselves. If you're going to do something, you might as well do it right. We'd need no less than one of the Top 20 starters in this league, which means that we'd have to give up a s***load of talent in exchange. The addition of a Top 20 starter could secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. :D Our rotation would be lethal with all of our current starters moving back one slot.

And while this could set us back somewhat in the long run, at least we'd be a legitimate candidate to win the World Series this year, and perhaps next year. And I hate to sound like a Cubs fan with all of this World Series talk, but like Hawk says, it is what it is.

There is one guy not mentioned much in the SP sweepstakes and that is Joe Kennedy of Colorado.

He did marginally well for Tampa Bay in their bandbox and has pitched very well for Colorado.

If you can succeed pitching for Colorado, you can be successful almost anywhere.

Johnson is a 5/10 guy and has an ironclad no trade clause. He is alos very happy in Arizona. I don't look for him to be wearing any other uniform any time soon.
