maggsmaggs
But doesn't know OUR Gm's name carmen schaumburg, illinois: What do you think of the White Sox team, do you think they will be able to trade for a 5th starter and do you think they can compete for the pennant? Peter Gammons: My answer is yes, and yes. They are one of the biggest surprises in either league b/c their front four starters have been so good. Take out the fifth starter -- a position where they haven't won a game since 2002 -- and their pitchers would have the best ERA and quality start percentage in the league. Tim Williams is one of the most aggressive GMs out there. His first concerning is pitching -- and he will get some. Not only will he be a contender for Freddy Garcia, but I'll be he'll make a play on Carlos Beltran as well. With Jeremy Reed and Joe Borchard coming on in AAA, he may have a left handed bat to put in centerfield. Don't bet against them going somewhere in October. I wasn't aware Tim Williams is our GM But nice to see his comments about Freddy G. and even Beltran.

danman31
I could swear we won at least 1 game with our 5th starter last year. That sounds wrong.
Rex Hudler
That's funny........ perhaps he made the mistake in honor of the berry-barry fiasco a few years back. lol
hammerhead johnson
I could swear we won at least 1 game with our 5th starter last year. That sounds wrong. Cotts went 1-1 last year. Yahoo doesn't have a page for him, though. I think he won his start against the Rangers? My memory is not what it used to be.
SoxAce
Well, since Gammons said this there's a 10-20% chance we get Garcia or Beltran.. even less..
MnSoxFan
I had read our 5th starters won 3 games in something like 27 starts last season. Brutal, may as well say we won none.
Jordan4life_2007
Nice article even though the moron doesn't know our gm's name. Garcia and Beltran with the Sox? Ok, i'll stop dreaming now.

whitesoxin'
He's not a moron, we all butcher names once in awhile. It's good to see some Bristol boys give the Sox some credit.
SoxAce
Well he's a bigger Moron then I thought he was... No. Jay Mariotti is a moron. Gammons is a whipping boy sort of speak.
Chisoxfn
Last season Cotts had a win as a 5th starter as did someone else. I forget who the other was. I actually think their were 3 wins by 5th starters last season.
SoxAce
I also believe (off memory here) that Porzio got a win as well.. I could be wrong though.

Sometimes I sit there watching BBTN and wonder just what, if anything, Gammons knows about MLB aside from Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs and Sosa. hammerhead johnson
I actually think their were 3 wins by 5th starters last season. Which is what Mnsoxfan verified via internet search & displayed up top.... I also conducted a search. Wright won one, Stewart won one, and Cotts won one. Those are the three victories. You know that people are going to be like "Sox 5th starters haven't won a game since 2002!" because dumbf*** Gammons is too lazy to look into things. So we won a ton of games out of that spot.
Dick Allen
In Gammons defense, I'm sure he is talking and someone is typing in the chat. He probably said Ken but it sounded like Tim going through his wooden teeth.

You know, that is one hell of a point you make. 21 wins out of the 5th spot? That has to be an all time record.

EvilJester99
I do believe the other guy that won last year in the fifth spot was Josh Stewart.

He did OK as the fifth starter before he took that line drive last year.
