sox-r-us
At the start of the season, our two biggest holes were 2B and CF in terms of offensive production. Now, with the emergence of Uribe and Willie (we should wait another 30 games before knowing they are for real, but for now they do look for real), we have solved both of our problems by plugging Willie at CF and Uribe at 2B, and occasionally at 3B to get Crede going We have to play Uribe AND Willie down the stretch if they continue to be >0.280, which is possible. They are a great 1-2 punch and help get our big boppers going with RBI opportunities. Willie also adds the LH bat we needed badly, in addition to Valentin's bat. Uribe helps us slide Val down the order where he belongs. Which means, if we get a CF, we have to sit Crede to let uribe play at 3B. If we get someone like Beltran or Everett, we HAVE to sit Crede to let Uribe play. Knowing Crede always plays much better after the AS break, do we really need to get any position player? We could easily play Willie at CF, Uribe at 2B and Crede at 3B down the stretch. The 3 other positions where we thought we might need an upgrade at the start of the season were 1B, C and SS: Paulie is overpaid at 1B, but he has been better than last year and will hit >0.275 with >30 jacks when all is said and done. Olivo is on pace for >0.280 too for the season, with >15 jacks, and Sandy is a solid vet backup for the playoffs/down the stretch run (hitting >0.280 too) Valentin is Valentin.....he will strikeout and will have issues against lefty pitching but he is a very good #6/7 hitter and will get his >0.270 and >25 HRs when all is said and done. Obviously, there is no upgrade needed at RF, LF, DH in terms of trades. Lee can get better, but there is no need to replace him. Timo Perez, Rowand and Gload make for a decent bench, so not much is needed there either. In short, I think we should simply focus on pitching. One starting pitcher and one stud reliever (Eddie G?). Agree?
AngelasDaddy0427
I agree with all but one of your points... We don't need a reliever. One good starter and we are maybe the best team talent wise in the entire american league....
YASNY
We still need a LH thumper.

I am still worried about Pollitte, Koch and Takatsu though they have all produced at some point or the other until now One stud closer that pushes Koch to a set up/righty specialist role would be great
YASNY
Where will you play him? CF? Then Crede has to sit. Trade PK, for a left handed equivilent... or for a pitcher, then go get the LH equivilent.
sox-r-us
We still need a LH thumper. In my ideal dream world, I would trade Paulie for some reliever and trade for Delgado, but chances of that happening are slim
SnB
I agree, the only desperate need the sox have right now is that 5th starter. 2b-covered by uribe, cf-covered by harris and our BP will be fine. The emergence of shingo is really what we needed and we got it. Get that 5th starter and the sox are a very complete team.

Agreed....I am just not sure there will be much we can get for Paulie Paulie clearly cannot be traded to teams that are selling at the AS break since they would not want his payroll for next year and year after given his production issues. And if we trade Paulie to teams wanting to add at the AS break, I am not sure why those teams would give up any quality pitching in return if they are contending Hence the dilemma

Easier said than done with that contract, of course I wouldn't mind acquiring some bullpen help. When it comes to the playoffs, you can never have too much pitching. IlliniKrush
Yes, especially with your boy still in that BP Talk about your all time backfires... I didn't make the name because i loved him, just made it cuz i thought it was clever and had to do with our new impact player. LOL
hammerhead johnson
One good starter and we are maybe the best team talent wise in the entire american league.... Yeah, we'll have more talent than the Yankees all of a sudden.
sox-r-us
LOL .... I am still hoping that Koch even gets back to his 95mph days....a good Koch would really help us beat the Spankees/Bo Sox/As/Angels in the playoffs

Rowand44
One stud closer that pushes Koch to a set up/righty specialist role would be great Koch has been damn good so far this year. The sox don't need a closer. If Koch were anything else but the closer he'd be worthless cause he'd explode. He's the closer, period.
