YASNY
I'm wondering where all the "Koch is a great closer because he hasn't blown many saves" people are tonight. That crow must be mighty tasty. Any closer controversy can be answered by asking yourself one simple question: Did anybody really feel confident with a 1 run lead in the ninth with Crotch in there? But of course, I have never pitched in the major leagues so my opinion doesn't matter. We just consider the source. :headshake

Ozzietheairedale
That's putting it mildly Josh.. Looks like even somebody who hasn't pitched in the majors can be right once in a while. Hate to say I told you so....
flippedoutpunk
Id love to see Shingo as a closer like everyone else. Im just afraid that the only reason he's being so successful is because hitters dont know what the hell to expect from this guy. Once hitters start to figure him out, it could get ugly, but then again, that can be said about any other closer.

Exactly what I said.....no one figured out Hideo Nomo his first year...and teams faced him multiple times...and multiple at bats per game. Shingo is very effective only having to face 3 or 4 batters. The Critic
You guys are missing a huge point here. If shingo becomes the closer then that makes mike jackson the right handed setup man. Koch becomes completely useless if he gets taken out of the closers role. If kw can make a trade for another right hander who could setup then you can make shingo the closer but if you do that now then you mess the whole bullpen up. At this point, Koch is of no use as the closer either, so there IS no other choice but to try another option. I would feel MUCH better with Jackson in the 7th than I do right now with Koch in the 9th. Shingo has earned the opportunity by getting hitters out consistently, while Koch has pitched himself out of that role. I really can't find a valid reason to continue using Billy in the 9th inning. No lead is safe from him right now....it really is a shame, I wanted him to do well and I thought he had turned a corner a while back.... Fearing that he might fail is not a good enough reason to hold him out at this point. He seems to be working an inning at a time lately anyway, why not have that inning be the 9th? He's making guys take REALLY bad swings right now - I feel good about giving him the role and let's see if anyone figures him out.
beck72
Shingo should do well as the closer. In Japan, teams played each other a lot, something like 25 games a year. So hitters were very familiar w/ Shingo and he still did well. Koch should be given the opportunity to pitch in set up [7th inning]. He's behind Politte and Marte who should have the 8th inning. If Koch can't help the Sox by getting some outs, he must be released. His trade value is minimal at best, even w/ the Sox taking on all his contract. israel4ever
If KW had any balls whatsoever, he'd release Koch today! He has to show some leadership (i.e. Tony Soprano last night!) and send Koch packing. Cut your losses, KW!
Texsox
Gee, I am certain that Kenny and JR are shocked that Koch is 1-1 with three blown saves in 10 tries this season. What could have foretold such pain and misery? Maybe last f***ing year? :fyou

Unless it's a 10 run defecit or lead type situation he needs to be in the basement washing jock straps.

NUKE_CLEVELAND
But are you sure about the lead? You have a point. When we have a 10 run lead then let him stop with the Jocks and have him iron uniforms instead.

I thought Billy was a key to this season, it looks like the key is locked in the car with the engine running. Whatever the hell that means

Whatever the hell that means If Botch was the key to this season that's the same as saying you broke the key off in the door lock of your car last year and didn't ever call the locksmith & now you've got somewhere important to be ( in the case of the Sox it's the playoffs ). The questions in my mind were Starting Pitching -- Overall 3/5 are doing better 1 (E-Lo) about to expectations 2nd Base -- Solved with an A+ CF -- Solved Closer -- Problem Manager -- doing fine
whitesoxjr27
this is from whitesox.com "It's embarrassing," Koch said following his third blown save of the season and second on this road trip. "There is no way I should ever blow a save to this team. I don't care who they run up there to the plate. I should be able to get them out. I've never been this upset over blowing a save ever. This one is going to eat at my brain a bit."
