Whitewashed in '05
In the time Maggs has been out the sox haven't done too bad but maybe if he was in the lineup the sox could have won one more game, to me they could have, with all those wasted opportunities in Oakland maybe Maggs could have come through who knows... Anyway now the sox will have a chance to really see what it will be like without him as this is his final year in his contract and probably in a sox uni. I am a big Maggs fan and I hope he doesn't walk but if the sox do good without him which I hope they do, that might be a reason for not bringing him back. JR loves to give excuses on why we couldn't do this or that and this could be one of them I can see it right now "we were playing so good while Magglio was out and I don't see why we can't do it again." The sox playing good without Maggs good be a good thing showing that even without their best player they can win but it can also do bad as I just stated above. What are your thoughts sox fans? Soxfest
How Sox play w/o MO is going to determine what happens with him down the line.

He's probably just wanting more money, and he's being a greedy bastard and not playing because he wants more money! PUSSY!
mac9001
I'm kinda surprised Mags is having surgery. My bro had a torn meniscus and he was up and running after about 3 weeks without surgery. I'm guessing their must be different levels of tears.
YASNY
Magglio has been damn near an iron man since he came up. I'm sure this is bothering him beyond his pain threshold or he'd be in the line up. I do not question a man who has played for 6+ years without being disabled. When the man says he's hurting, he's hurting.

I highly doubt we will have a platoon of Timo Perez and Aaron Rowand in RF all year long. We'll use Borchard/Reed/someone else before we use Perez-Rowand. If the Sox play well with Maggs out then it will be tremendous because they can build on it with him coming back. I think KW will add two players this year, maybe a 3rd. I think he'll add a lefty bat, a front line pitcher, and possibly another bullpen arm. I can't see many other teams getting much more then that out of the deadline and then at the Break, which is pretty close to the deadline, the Sox also get back one of the best outfielders in the game from the DL (Maggs), which is basically like getting a trade considering they'll be playing for about 2 months without him. It could be really huge if they still play good baseball with him gone, cause once all those things are done (the moves and Maggs coming back) the Sox could really be poised to go on a big if. Then again, lots of ifs in this and I just want the Sox to play good baseball each day they go to a ballpark. If they do that, they'll be just fine. sox-r-us
Realistically if we can somehow play 5 games above 0.500 in the stretch without Maggs we will be fine
Gene Honda Civic
Maggs absence actually makes the line-up more balanced. It's not quite the power hitting line-up it was before, but in general he is replaced with a lefty bat, who's job is to just do all of the little things right (hit behind the runner, bunt, etc.) anything beyond that is just gravy. Chisoxfn
I will really be interested in seeing what Ross Gload can do because I think he could turn into a pretyt key player for the team this year as well as next year. In fact, he could secure a future in the majors and with the Sox if he steps it up right now. I think consistent playing time will prove to do good things for Gload and we'll see him turn into a pretty damn solid player. Of course Gload is one of my favorite players on the Sox, so i'm a little bias, but I love his approach.

If we still have a lead of at least 2 games when Magglio comes off the DL, then I'll be happy.
