SoxFan562004
Just scanning the AAA stats I noticed Jeremy Reed's AVG. is down over .100 in the last month... Is there any scouting reports on the cause?
kapkomet
Supposedly he's been battling injuries.
mac9001
IMO he was way overrated coming into this season, but for now i'll buy the injury excuse.

mac9001
I just think people are making him sound like an superstar in waiting, while all i see is a solid major leaguer. When Reed does make it to the majors i expect him to be a .280-.300 type hitter with some pop and speed (10 HR's, 30 2B's, 20 SB) and a decent OBP (.350ish). A solid player, but not a star. When Reed hit the majors, he will eventually become right around a .300 hitter, with an OBP of at least .400. He has as great eye. Only in the first few weeks of this season, when he was batting around. 375 was he not walking much. He projects to be the PERFECT #2 hitter. I haven't seen his ability to bunt, or hit situationally, but his numbers tell me that the #2 spot will be his place in the lineup for some time. mac9001
I just don't think he can walk enough to have a .400 OBP. He's gonna see a lot more strikes in the majors. If he can hit in the .315 range i can see a .370 type OBP, but .400? That's a lot of walks for a guy with little power and slightly above average speed. Hey, i hope i'm wrong and Reed hits .350 and makes me look like a dushbag, but for now i have my doubts.

He has plate discipline. and all of those add over .100 points to his OBP at every stop.

Reed can hit and if he see 2 or 3 strikes in a at bat he'll swing, Bellhorn won't (which is why Bellhorn will probably strike out 150+ times if he get's the AB's). As for Reed's walk totals, i don't believe ML pitchers will be afraid to go after him, since he'll be primarily a singles hitter.

That wrist is startin to affect him a bit, but he's been showin a bit of power recently as well.

But even though Reed only batted about .250 for the month of May, his OBP was above .450 and his BB/K ratio was about 2.5:1. --
mac9001
If Reed can somehow put up a .400 OBP without a AVG in the .330-.340 range or increasing his power numbers to at least have a .460+ SLG%. He'll be a truly amazing player, since right now only one player in all of baseball has a .400+ OBP and less than a .476 SLG% (Bobby Higginson). DonkeyKongerko
He's a Billy Beane wunderkind. He can hit and take pitches, probably will develop more power too.
Jordan4life_2007
He's down to .274. But i'm not trippin. He'll be fine.
Xero
IMO he was way overrated coming into this season, but for now i'll buy the injury excuse. He batted .404 in AA. How is that over rated?
DBAHO
Reed is now .234 in his last 30 games according to BA.
mac9001
He batted .404 in AA. How is that over rated? Small sample size, he's put up pretty damn good numbers (other than this season) and i'm not questioning is ability to hit the ball (as i said, i think he can hit .300), but i don't see him being a high OBP/OPS guy that would warrant the type of hype he's received.
