Goldmember
David Lee Roth's 1985 hit "Just A Gigolo", was originally recorded by jazz artist Ted Lewis in 1931. 1931?
Texsox
An album called "The Wit and Wisdom of Ronald Reagan" was released by Stiff Records. The entire disc contained 40 minutes of silence. The Who and ELO never had #1 hits? I'm shocked.
FlaSoxxJim
Before he was convicted of murder, Charles Manson befriended Beach Boys' drummer Dennis Wilson, who convinced the rest of the band to record a Manson composition called "Cease To Exist". The title was changed to "Never Learn Not To Love" and was released as the "B" side of the single "Bluebirds Over The Mountain", which eventually climbed to number 61 in early 1969, giving Manson a hit record on Billboard's Hot 100. That's pretty creepy.
The Critic
The Who and ELO never had #1 hits? I'm shocked. ELO is a guilty pleasure of mine. I always enjoy hearing "Living Thing" or "Do Ya" when they pop up on the radio.

There is a time and a place for ELO. The time is any time I'm not around, and the place is anywhere I'm not at.

I was a big fan back in the 1970's and continue to enjoy ELO. Jim LMAO
cwsox
That's pretty creepy. child, my child, you didn't know that? What I get for being as old as I am. The house where Sharon Tate lived was formerly owned by someone connected with Wilson, a producer or something, Terry Melcher I think (Doris day's kid?), and it was probable that Manson didn't know Melcher had moved and the Polanskis had bought the house. Thus they were the people slaughtered so viciously were accidental targets of Manson, the real targets being Beach Boys and their associates. Some of the Beach Boys had already had restraining orders on Manson or were at least on guard against him because he scared the s*** out of them. Why can't I ever make money with this useless s*** I know?
cwsox
1931? David Lee Roth got me a lot of respect. 19-20 year old church emmebers would say, "You hear David lee Roth's new one?" and I;d say what's the name and they'd tell me and I'd tell them the words and were astounded I had the lyrics memorized aready! As long as DLR kept dipping into the oldies basket, I looked like Mr. Hip back in 1985!
FlaSoxxJim
child, my child, you didn't know that? What I get for being as old as I am. I didn't know he had penned a song they recorded, that's for sure. I vaguely recall once knowing something of a Beach Boys/Polanski connection involving Manson now that you jogged my memory, but didn't know asbout the B-side recording. Anything in that cranial hard drive about the sinister side of Laly co-writer and Derek and the Dominos drummer Jim Gordon? That story I do know. FlaSoxxJim
Who ever knew there was so much hatred of Esteban Loiaza? ZING!!! That had actually crossed my mind as I posted. And as a matter of full disclosure, if E-Lo grows a white man afro that would make Grand Funk envious and starts to sing songs in an annoying through-the-nose falsetto ala' Mr. Lynne I'll probably sttart to like him less too. Don't bring me down, Bruce.
