clujer420
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...s_cws&fext=.jsp That's one long link. Anyway, if Carlos can have a break-out season, just imagine what that would do to our line-up. Could we have 3 guys hit 35+ (40??)? Opposing pitchers:
soxfan420
i think we very well could have that happen i see 4 threats thomas, lee, mags,Pk i think are have legit chances of hitting 35-40 home runs i would not be shocked to see 3 of them to that at all

Paulie should have, but slumped in the 2nd half, Frank almost certainly will, Mags is a shoe-in, Carlos seems poised for a stand-out season, and an excited Jose (his quotes have been very encouraging) could do it too. I don't want to get too excited and have a 2001-like letdown, but I think this optimism isn't too far-fetched at all. Hopefully we can have a great year from either Miguel or Joe C to add a cherry to the top of the 2003 sundae.

witesoxfan
Our offense is fine....I'd rather see an article that says Lee is willing to give up his game defensively to become a stud on defense. As long as he isn't a dumbass on the bases as much....I'm fine with it. What are the odds of him NOT being a dumbass on the bases atleast once this year? I do like having 6 guys being able to go deep 30 times with 4 of them being possible 35-40 homer guys.

witesoxfan
How much you wanna bet....Lee costs us atleast 2 games because he was being a dips*** on the bases. Even without the s***ty base coaches....because according to baggs(and I believe him), Pettis told him to watch out for the pitcher, because he had a great move....Carlos took a few steps off....and was caught off base with Randall Simon holding the ball in his glove. What an idiot. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed

I don't think it is the workhorses thinking....I think it is Carlos not thinking. Carlos forgets to think like it's his job. He's a friggin dumbass. I bet if he thought every once in a while....he's be a half decent baserunner
cwsox
How much you wanna bet....Lee costs us atleast 2 games because he was being a dips*** on the bases. CLee may cost us an inning or two but then again he'll win some games for us too and when he beats the cubs again we'll all dance for joy - his defense has improved each year and he'll never be a gold glove but if he improves again in 2003 as it has each year past, I'll be more than happy, and CLee wasn't the only dunderhead on the bases last year. I am not worried about CLee at all. 2nd base is the one position that I am worried about.

clujer420
and manuel states he might try hitting him second His OBP in the 2nd half of 2002 was .407, and he's got the ability to steal 20 bases -- why SHOULDN'T Jerry consider him for the #2 slot?
witesoxfan
Guys...he's considering it. Not saying Carlos is going to bat second....saying he is considering it. Like he considered many, many other things before in the past. Jerry is a tinkerer. Anyways...if you want a reason why he shouldn't....then I'll give you one. CLee may be able to hit from the #2 spot....but Jose won't hit well anywhere else. If he batted from the #2 spot(like he normally does), he will see a steady stream of fastballs, assuming Frank is being the dangerous hitter he has been in the past. If so....Jose will probably hit .275 25 90 or so....just like in 2000. Batting anywhere else....he won't get those fastballs...and will hit about .245 25 65....and Carlos will hit the same from either spot, because he is a more talented hitter than Jose is. I'd much rather Jose batting in the second slot than I would Lee....for the reason above. cw....I was just talking about the bases. Even with him improving with the glove....he still isn't good....and he doesn't have much of an arm. I'd rather have Daubach out there....though he may be the same defensively, he IS left-handed....something we need in the lineup almost desperately. I believe KW will realize this at the deadline and he'll have to make a move to either open up a spot for Borchard/Daubach or he'll have to trade for some lefty power(ie, Carlos Beltran). I could see him trading Lee, Rowand and Stewart, along with cash and possibly another minor leaguer, for Beltran and some diamond in the rough guy....we get Beltran in CF and Daubach/Borchard in LF....which adds two lefty bats to the lineup on any given day. That's July though....we're still in February....and I'll stick by my prediction that CLee will be dealt at the deadline.
Mr. Showtime
Manuel likes to find the right matchups all the time. Which in some years and one some teams will work, in other situations it won't. Jose will be in the 2-hole, that we know for sure. Lee will only see time in the two hole on certain occasions where a lefty is the mound. At this point and time, there isn't a damn thing going on and reporters just throw stupid s*** at Manuel, and he just says anything.
BridgeportHeather
I've been trying to convince you guys that Carlos is gonna have a breakout year, but many of you constantly flame back "he's a dumbass" at me!!! You are going to have to eat your words when all's said and done! Carlos WILL be more than decent. He's developING into a stud baseball player. IlliniKrush
Dumbass on the basepaths? Aside frome the Foulke 2 inning blown save opp against the Yanks in May, the most frustrating loss was the Carlos Lee picked off 3rd base play against the Expos...good teams don't pull that crap. I was distraught after that game, and the fireworks did nothing to help it.
YASNY
I'm with Heather on this one. Carlos is going to be a helluva hitter.... soon.
