Gene Honda Civic
Seattle Mariners ace Freddy Garcia should be next on Yankees' blockbuster list. This time Garcia would bring a more traditional type of aid. While the Yankees are monitoring superstar outfielder Carlos Beltran and remain the favorite (again, just ahead of Boston) to sign him long-term this winter, their immediate need is for a dynamic arm. There's no evidence anyone else of Garcia's ability will become available, either. Major-league execs remain doubtful Arizona will deal Randy Johnson, or that Milwaukee will part with Ben Sheets, meaning Seattle could be sitting in the catbird's seat for sellers. Mariners GM Bill Bavasi hasn't officially started his sales job - he said he wants to wait a week or two before deciding whether to begin a selloff - but Bavasi did say of Garcia, "He might be the best pitcher in our league." http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yan...ny-sports-print Although Horacio Ramirez is eligibile to come off the disabled list, it doesn't look he'll start Saturday night against the White Sox in Chicago. The Braves left-hander, who hasn't pitched since May 25, is still bothered by shoulder tendinitis. "A lot of the soreness and stiffness is gone, so there is progress," said the left-hander, who is scheduled to throw in the bullpen today. "But I'm not completely pain free." If Ramirez can't pitch Saturday night, the Braves' likely starter is John Thomson. http://www.ajc.com/braves/content/sports/b...04/10notes.html Andruw Jones is playing with a heavy heart. The center fielder's grandmother died last week in the Netherlands, and the body was flown back from Europe for a funeral Saturday on the island of Curacao. Jones considered asking for a bereavement leave, but decided to stay with the Braves for the weekend series in Chicago. Backup infielder Jesse Garcia left the team in May to attend his grandmother's funeral in Texas. http://www.ajc.com/braves/content/sports/b...04/10notes.html Other notes. Paul Abbott signed with the Phillies -- Guess they need a fifth starter too Rick Helling should be in the Rangers rotation in a couple of weeks. Todd Ritchie will learn his fate with the Twins this week.
Jordan4life_2007
f*** THE GOD DAMN YANKEES :fyou . On the real. What the hell do they have that the Mariners would want for Garcia? Don't the M's want young position players? Or do the Yanks have some guys in their system that I don't know about?
SoxAce
We have a better shot than the yanks IMO. We have more young, position talent in the majors/minors, and that's what Seattle is looking for. Unless the yanks plan to $$$ some dough to get him..
knightni
I think the whole Yankees/Garcia/Ben Maller thing was posted a week ago. The Yankees will have to pull the wool over Seattle's eyes to get Garcia. Which they could do. But, the Sox have a better minor league system that they can draw from to make a deal with Seattle than does New York.
Confederate_48
Gammons said last night he doesnt think the Yankees can compete with the White Sox for Garcia based on the White Sox having more talent to offer. If that means anything to anyone here.

SoxAce
The yanks have some good prospects. Halsey (the most ready), Navarro (their best prospect), Cano (good too) Cabrera, (the youngest in this group) Mendez (another youngster) and DeSalvo (good, but in Class A at 23) We have more to give and better all around players in our system. We have the advantage.
witesoxfan
good, but in Class A at 23 I don't know much about the minor leagues, but I do know that 23 in A-ball is s***ty as hell, especially if he is a good prospect for you. If that is any indication of what the Yankees can give up, I feel confident that we will get Garcia. I just wish they'd do it quickly so we can get it over with. Not sure why he Yankees arent moving him up with his good era, k to walk ratio etc.. but thats beside the point. We have two potential stars in Rauch and Borchard/Rowand (not a star but potential to be a solid player) and they are position players. I only see one of those for the yankees (Navarro) Time will tell, but I'm confident that Garcia is comming to the southside.
DBAHO
With Kevin Brown's back injury, the Yanks will really go afta Freddy Garcia now, and I think they'll get him too. It'll be a 3 way deal, with the Yanks givin up some prospects and Jose Contreas to get Garcia.
SoxAce
A 3 way deal would help them..
DBAHO
A 3 way deal would help them.. Remember the deal when they got Jeff Weaver from Detroit, with the Tigers getting Carlos Pena from the A's. I could really see sumthin like that happenin, especially if Steinbrenner pays all of Contreas' contract.
beck72
The red sox and Yanks are always thought to be the "leading" teams to get players. They always start the rumors because of all the east coast media willing to hop on a "big story". Yet both systems are bare of upper minor league talent to make in season trades. Esp. for guys like Beltran and Garcia. The best these teams can hope for is getting perennial losers [like the Pirates, Milw, etc] to take lower level guys for their major leaguers. Though the Yanks will take on a guy with a big contract, [like Bret Boone]. My guess is Sea. is weighing all the offers and the Sox can match what other teams will offer for Garcia. KC is doing the same thing with Beltran. The KC Star is saying the price for Beltran won't be as much as they expected, unless that team can try and talk with Beltran about resigning. Teams don't want to give up premium young guys for a few month rental.
Xero
Who has MLB Insider? What does Rumor Central say about Beltran, Garcia, etc...
Wong & Owens
Don't forget that Garcia and Guillen know and like each other pretty well.
Wedge
Don't forget that Garcia and Guillen know and like each other pretty well. That's good and all, but I'm not sure that helps us pull off a trade. It might help us sign him in the off-season.
israel4ever
The Yanks can pull off a 3-way, cuz they have million$ to throw into any deal!
Jordan4life_2007
I still don't see the Yanks being able to land, Garcia. Even with their deep pockets. The M's want some solid talent in return. The Yanks don't have it. Or at the very least don't have the same caliber of talent we can offer them.
