GO_Todd_Ritchie
Ken Williams first decision trade Borchard or not to trade him I've read several articles that show that he contradicts himself, first saying that he won't trade Borchard and later saying that he will. Next Decision wait a few weeks for Freddy Garcia or go after Thomo Ohka. Only time will tell what will actually happen and if Ken Williams is smart which the fans trust that he is he will make a trade soon

danman31
Ohka out for 3 months ,that decision is made. KW needs to do this trade now!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Well it sounds like he is at least looking/talking about making a trade. If Munoz does well it will allow him to bide his time like he wants to. If Munoz doesn't do well the Sox have no other viable options for the 5th starter.
WSoxShuf
This game of find the next best thing in the minor league has been a travashamockery. It is doing nothing for our team, and crushing the confidence of our young arms.
YASNY
I haven't seen anything but denials from Williams when it comes to the possibility of trading Borchard. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps him. I think Borchard can help this team, this year.

But if we do trade Reed, it better be for a stud pitcher (Sheets, Sabathia) or for pretty damn good pitcher (Garcia) and a pretty damn good reliever (Guardado). We finally have a player in the minor leagues who is EXACTLY what we need, a lefty who can hit for average and will get on base a good percentage of the time, I don't want to trade him away for a three month rent-a-player. I would much rather trade Borchard than Reed...

I think Reed will be a solid #2 type hitter in the big leagues, and those guys are valueable. I just think Borchard can be so much more than that. If Joe ever puts it together, and it looks like he is now, he definitely has more upside then Reed.

I would much rather trade Borchard than Reed... I completely agree. Reed shouldn't go anywhere. He's exactly what the Sox are missing--a high OBP guy, a LH bat, contact hitter. Borchard may make more ESPN highlight clips. But Reed should have the longer more productive career. Reed should only be part of a blockbuster deal where the player the Sox get would be around longer than 1/2 a season. What many people are not thinking about is the long term make up of the club. the sox young guys are not guys who walk much, and haven't even as minor leaguers--Olivo, Uribe, Crede, even Harris. While these guys may improve their OBP, they probably won't walk that much as they get older. Reed's talents offsets their weaknesses. Why give up a 22 year old guy with a Frank thomas-like batting eye, who holds a .325+ career minor league AVG, over a 25 year old with a career .277 avg, and a .460 SLG %? If we were talking about another teams' two prospects, no one would say keep the guy who's spent the last 3 years in AAA over a guy who has spent only 2 months there, yet have the same numbers, and is 3 years younger. Queen Prawn
I think got a ball hit off his forearm and broke it. I heard that (and they showed a clip) on the news this morning and all I have to say is: OW!!!!!!!
striker
We won't trade Reed or Bochard with the possibility that Maggs leaves this offseason. If we can't get Garcia, Sabathia or Sheets without giving up those two I say we get Benson. Pirates normally give their players away. Plus we are only talking about #5 starter. Benson was like #1-3 for the Pirates.

T R U
Even if Munoz throws a complete game shut out I still think we need to go out and get a start of the rotation pitcher... Its needed for us to have a chance in the playoffs IF we get there
YASNY
I wasn't talking about another teams prospects. I was talking about Borchard vs. Reed. And I stick by what I said. As for your assessment that Reed could have a longer career, you may be right. But I'd rather have 5 years of superstar calibre baseball (which I think Borchard is capable of) than 15 years of Mark Kotsay-ish baseball, to whom Reed has been so often compared. beck72
I'd rather have 5 years of superstar calibre baseball (which I think Borchard is capable of) than 15 years of Mark Kotsay-ish baseball, to whom Reed has been so often compared. Jeremy Reed is the one who has put up "superstar" numbers in his minor league career though. Joe has never had a minor league season that would lend credence to him being a superstar in the majors. Reed has. Coming into this year [with both hovering around .270-.280] Reed had a .356 career minor league avg [in 674 AB's] , compared to Joe's .276 avg. [in 1494 AB's]; a .430 OBP, and a .509 SLG. Joe had a .469 SLG %. While Joe has homered more often [1 every 24.10 AB's to Reed's 1 every 44.93 AB's] he's also K'd more often [once every 3.55 AB to Reed's one every 11.23 AB's] and walked less [every 9.22 AB to Reed's 8.32]. The Sox need more of the numbers that Reed can give them, rather than those that come with a power guy like Borchard, esp. when you consider what the young Sox guys also add to the team-Crede, Olivo, Uribe, Harris. I'd be shocked if Reed was traded rather than Joe. I believe Kenny Williams is talking up Borchard only to increase his trade value.
