southsideirish
To me, looking at our payroll, spending that kind of money on a corner outfielder doesn't make any sense to me. I would rather spend it on pitching or a player up the middle. We will need a SS go get one. We could use a CF, get one of those too. For this money, plus Jose's money, and Koch's money we can get quality at SS, CF, and pitching. I say let the jamoke walk and see what he does for the team that gets him. I hope San Diego finishes the season badly then they overpay for him and we get a high draft pick.
CWSGuy406
well put, but Damon came up with the Royals, not the A's Ah, touche. Forgot about that, thank you sir!
southsideirish
This is also 40 years of frustration with ownership bowing down to the Cubs and crying poor. At some point you realize your favorite team may never win a championship before you die. It's always anotehr rendition of these youngsters can play. 40 years of ownership bowing down to the Cubs? How is that? The Cubs havent had back to back winning seasons since 1971-72. The Cubs didn't start to outdraw us until the early 80s and didn't outdraw us in the early 90s
Wedge
Winning the World Series is not irrelevant to me. Note that the Angels won in 2002, and the Marlins won it last year. They aren't from the AL Central, to be sure, but they have done it without an $85 million payroll. The team that spends the most does not always win. The prospect of losing Magglio sucks, but we have to face the reality that the White Sox are not a team with an $85 million payroll. Maybe when that reality changes (if the current ownership block sells, or if attendance spikes), we'll have a Boston, NYY, or Cubs sized budget. The White Sox are lucky they aren't in a division that needs that much to compete, to be sure. They can win the division without the huge payroll. Once you're in the playoffs, it's anyone's game. quickman
draft well and then what? If you cannot keep the superstars you develop, when are you going to win a Worlds Series? Commenting on the Twins winning the central without an $85 million dollar payroll, I posted that no team has won the WS from the Central in a very long time and that if we were in the East, we wouldn't even sniff the playoffs. That was characterized as irrelevant. I guess actually winning a World Series is irrelevant to Sox fans, but the shareholders collective net worth is. :headshake :puke on losers No the idea that we are in the central and not the East is irrevelant. Last time i looked we didn't win anythign with Maggs yet either. Let me know when you are going to Pony up for some season tickets. I think Southwest Flys here from Texas. Ok I now understand your frustration as is my frustration but this Maggs thing is out of hand. We have no idea whats going to happen, lets just sit and wait. What if maggs doesn't come back to full health from the knee. Then we will all thank JR for not signing him. Lets just wait and see. Enjoy the game tonight. BrandoFan
You are correct, it is irrelevant. Since we, as loyal fans of the White Sox shareholders, would rather applaud them toeing some payroll limit then winning a World Series. Lose games but make money YEAH!!! Let's get a list of the Shareholders and start singing their virtues since we seem more interested in them making money then winning a f***ing World Series. I can just imagine the posts Wow, did you see where Barry Jones just increased his net worth? He's almost at $10,000,000! Dam let's see if we can sign the full roster to MLB minimum salaries and really put him over the top! Go Shareholders!! By the way, can you name anyone on the roster, you know the guys who play? "play what?" "baseball" "really, that's the business they are in? Cool, I thought White Socks meant textiles." It really IS the end of story. Sox fans as any fans want a winner and could care less about shareholders, that goes WITHOUT saying. Unfortunately, this ownership group cares about profit first and foremost. They won't budge and they sure as hell won't sell. They will continue to ruin this franchise to make a buck, it's just the way it is. Stay away from the park, curtail your spending in an attempt to send a message to JR, etc and you achieve NOTHING, only robbing yourself of fun times at the ballpark in the process. You lose. Team loses. Bottomline: the payroll won't reach 80+ Mill without a significant increase in revenue. You can b**** about it and pick apart every flaw in JR's business model (and there is a lot to criticise!)......or you can accept it as reality and move on. Should you choose to accept it, you'd have to realize why paying 14-15 Mill a year for many years for Magglio would be STUPID. Bonds 5 years ago? Yes. Magglio? No. He is not that good, he is not that popular and the only time he made it into postseason, he more or less choked. Losing him would be a big PR hit, but what the alternative? Crippling the team's chances for years to come? I said before the season that Maggs should be re-signed if he can carry this team deep into the playoffs and fans come in bunches. So far he's had a very ordinary season, and now he might be damaged goods on top of it. Hmm, let me ponder this one..........

Texsox
Would the argument "is Maggs worth the money" change is Sox attendance was 3,000,000? Why would he suddenly be worth more if we drew more? Thanks for the comment, Nuke. I appreciate it. They are taking my computer away. They think I am "working" too hard.

marsh
we should trade maggs, crede & prospects to houston for morgan ensberg, wade miller and brad lidge. the sox will then meet houston in the world series. it's what it is, and it is what it is. CubsSuck1
In all seriousness, if Maggs left, it would make a huge blow in my personal fan support of this team. Being only 15, in my era of being a HUGE sox fan (not just casual, about since 2000), I have not seen any huge superstars leave the team. I build such a strong connection to players, and if Maggs or even Frank left, I'd feel such a hole in the team, and I would be very depressed. This may be something I have to get used to, though. I hate it especially when we lose a player for nothing in Free Agency..
NUKE_CLEVELAND
BTW, I just read a report that we are phasing back Troops in Korea? Will there still be sufficient Troops to support the South? The S. Koreans have something like 600 thousand troops in their Army. Our people over here are nothing more than a tripwire really. As badly trained and equipped as the North is if they tried to come south it'd be like feeding a tree branch into a wood chipper.

Tex, I did jump on your Ass, and then he jumped in and called me a dumb ass. he doesn't jump in and we don't have this conversation. I didn't ask him for his opinion nor did I Post to him. Any more issues? My comments to you were of the nature that most people on this board complain that the sox are chep and JR should jsut give away his money for the pleasure of the people on this board. Not the case. My comments to you are tongue and cheek. I know you live out of state. i can put that together, but If I am running a team that brings in 17,000 a game I am not spending either for the sake of the bulls*** people on this board that make it to 7 games a year. Your opinon of frustration is quite valid as I stated earlier. I do not think you need Cleveland to speak on your behalf, nor did I call anyone a Dumbass before Cleveland dropped his bomb.
