Guest JimH
Levine was on with John Rooney Sunday morning, before the Sox radio pre game show. Rooney asked Levine about White Sox trade talk, Levine said the Sox had a deal set up with the Yankees for Jose Contreras, RHP - the Cuban guy, but when Kevin Brown got injured the Yankees called it off ... for now. Levine mentioned Contreras has a big contract and the Sox had it set up where the Yankees would pick it up, with "a low level prospect or two" going to New York. Additionally, Levine said since it's now been determined that Brown's injury is not serious, the talks/deal may be rekindled and go through. Levine also talked about Miguel Bautista, but just in generalities, saying the Sox may be interested in him. He also mentioned Freddy Garcia and said the Mariners aren't quite ready to deal him ... yet. Lastly, he mentioned the Royals and Expos as two teams that will be moving players soon, and expected the Pirates to do so in mid-late July. Interesting stuff. southsider2k5
The other interesting thing about Contreras that I heard when Levine was on Carmen and Silvy's show was that the Sox were going to use Contreras as a closer.
Wedge
I heard that Friday on my ride home and that drew a WTF from me. I don't understand. Zero should be allowed to close until he shows he can't. Especially now that he has his first save. What does Contreras do? Has he ever been a closer/reliever? I can only remember him starting. I wouldn't mind seeing him with Marte as set-up men, but for the love of God, please leave Zero at closer.
Guest JimH
Mike, I did not hear that about him being a closer ... interesting. By the way, can you change the thread title, I spelled Levine's name wrong, can you add the "e" at the end, thank you! Maybe the Yankees will take Koch?!?!? What a mess that would be - the first time Koch screwed up in Yankee Stadium, holy smokes, those people are merciless.
quade36
Contreras sucks......... When the Yanks try and dump a player, that player is not good.....
Guest JimH
Contreras sucks......... When the Yanks try and dump a player, that player is not good..... I have the same concerns. It's possible the Sox think he might do better out of that NY pressure cooker, although Chicago is no walk in the park either. It might be one of those things where the Sox are looking at his mechanics and thinking they can tweak him. Who knows.

Wedge
I only care if he can start. Or get Billy Koch out of town.

What a mess that would be - the first time Koch screwed up in Yankee Stadium, holy smokes, those people are merciless. He didn't say it on his usual show. I caught a segment where Levine called in during Silvy and Carmen and then he mentioned it. As to Contreras, if the Yankees are willing to pick up at least most of his $8 mil a year, I say go for it. The guy has an electric arm, it just looks to me like he is having problems getting the right arms slots and angles. And after watching Don Cooper work his magic on Scho and ELo, I am willing to give him a chance with Jose.

IlliniKrush
So it's the fans fault that Billy Koch can't get anyone out anymore? Nice :banghead

Steff
Are you Moises Alou? OT... I'm bringing a sign to the Cubs/Sox game at Wrigley on the 2nd that says... "Pee Pee hands... wash your hands!" We're sitting right behind the Cubs dugout.
Wedge
I actually don't have a problem with the hand peeing. It's sort of gross, but it's a natural performance enhancement technique (so they say). If he's that dedicated to his game, so be it.
quade36
No, I was just saying, if the guy sucks he sucks. You don't have to tell him 5,000,000 times he sucks. I'm sure Koch is well aware he sucks. I for one and tired of knocking him. For a while this year I wanted him to do well. I was angry at first. Now, I've just learned to accept the fact that he is going to give up runs every time he goes out. There is nothing we as fans can do. If you want to blame someone, blame management. But really how much can they do with a guy making over 6,000,000 that No One wants.... So we are all stuck with eachother. learn to live with it because it won't change this season... Guest JimH
Livan Hernandez, please! Levine brought his name up too, as a guy who could be potentially moved. He also mentioned that Hernandez has a two year contract

Um...even when this guy was the Rolaids relief pitcher of the year...he had people on the edge of their seat when he closed out games(not in a good way!). The difference between then and now.....he can't throw 99-100 mph anymore.

Wedge
no, the difference between then and now is that he had movement on his fastball then. Now is straight. I think both facts are true. I also think BK might play some role on this team. No idea what it is, but just sort of a feeling like his time with us isn't done yet.
