Mike Smith will get his money

This is probably the only time i've supported Mike Smith. Classless act by the Hawks after it as well.

In a move that the Blackhawks or the NHL failed to make public, the Blackhawks will be required to pay former General Manager Mike Smith the balance of his contract. The Blackhawks may have retaliated by firing a scout last week left over from the Mike Smith tenure with the Blackhawks, part time scout Brad Hornung, who is a quadriplegic.

(Blackhawkzone.com) The Blackhawks fired former General Manager Mike Smith last year and then got petty and refused to pay him for the balance of his contract, citing some silly arguments about how Smith breached his contract by badmouthing head coach Brian Sutter to the local press.

According to a report in Sunday's Boston Globe, Smith will receive every dollar owed to him that was left on his contract when he got fired. I haven't agreed with a lot of the moves that Smith made with the Blackhawks, but I was glad to see him win this round, as the Blackhawks were totally wrong in this situation.

So I can imagine that the Blackhawks were pretty upset with having to pay Smith and may have decided to get even with Smith. The Blackhawks also made a change in their scouting department last week but didn't make this news public. I guess that they didn't want any more bad press this summer.

The Blackhawks fired part time scout Brad Hornung last week or as the paper reported, kicked him to the curb.

Hornung is a quadriplegic since having an on ice accident during his playing days in Regina, Saskatchewan. Hornung was hired during former General Manager Mike Smith's tenure.

I remember seeing a nice story on CBC's the headliner about Hornung, which talk about his perservance, coping with the physical challengers and his being able to do his job using computer technology and not complaining about the bad luck that has come his way.

So, I will leave it up to you to decide. Did the Blackhawks let Hornung go in retalitation for the Blackhawks having to pay Smith what was owed to him and let go another person from the Smith regime or did the Blackhawks cut a position due to the impending lockout.

If you ask me, something sure stinks on West Madison Street.

I'm just glad that I'm not a big Hawks fan like I am Sox, Bears, and Bulls. Team management for the Sox, Bears, and Bulls seems to piss me off at one time or another, but from what I've heard, Hawks managment is even worse. I couldn't stand being a Hawks fan w/ their shotty managment. Just think of how good the Hawks would be if they didn't get rid of practically all their good players.

Gets 2 mil to settle dispute with Hawks but the bigger picture is no wonder the Hawks are horrid, Smith was a complete dumbass just hearing him speak was a joke. How does this guy get hired for anything let alone GM and with Pulford still around christ. Word on the street is many other GM were going to put the dirt on Wirtz/Pulford and the Hawk ORGANI-ZATION old BW decided hell here is the money, i was hoping to see the jerk looking bad in the media.
