Brian Anderson Named to Carolina League All-Star Team

Anderson lone Warthog to play for Carolina League

By Danny Santaromita

Today the Carolina League named it's roster for the Carolina/California League All-Star Game which will be played on June 29th in San Bernardino, California. The annual all-star game pits a Carolina League All-Star team against a California League All-Star team. Both leagues are at the high A level. Outfielder Brian Anderson was the only Warthog to make the Carolina League team as a player.

Anderson is hitting .318 with 7 HR and 39 RBI this season. Anderson was taken in the 1st round of the 2003 Amateur Draft (15th overall). Last season he started at rookie level Great Falls and was batting .388 before a wrist injury put him on the shelf for the rest of the season. Despite skipping low level A Kannapolis, Anderson has hit well this season. The 22 year-old was listed as a starter for the All-Star game. It is possible Anderson could get promoted to Birmingham before the All-Star game just like Jeremy Reed was last year. The Barons' offense has struggled all season long and Anderson would be a welcome addition to the ballclub. Winston-Salem trainer Josh Fallin was also named to the team.

FutureSox would like to congratulate Anderson on making the Carolina League All-Star team.

WTG Brian!!!!

Here is my question. If the Sox make a trade for a pitcher involving minor leaguers. Do people think that Anderson and Sweeney could be involved? I know KW wants to hold on to Reed and Borchard because of Maggs pending free agency. Could this mean the next guys in line are Sweeney and Anderson? Thoughts?

Anything is possible, but as most people have said on trade rumors in the Pale Hose forum Sweeney and Anderson will only go if the Sox are getting an all-star. I know everybody likes Sweeney, but I'm not sold yet. I'd rather trade him than Anderson simply because Anderson is closer to the bigs. The less potential the Sox gamble on the better IMO. I think the Sox would rather trade pitching for pitching. It all depends on who they are trading for and what that team has in their system. To be honest I still think Borchard is getting traded along with Rauch and another mid level prospect. Others feel the same way or not?

I've got the same feeling, especially b/c you have to give something to get something, and if we want a player that will really help us in the playoff run, we're gonna have to give up some good players. I hate to give up on Borchard and Rauch, especially Borch, w/ the way that they're playing now, but if it betters our chance to win the world series, then go ahead and trade them.
