southsider2k5
I wonder what the whole story on that is? I thought that kid was supposed to be a huge stud and almost a can't miss superstar? And if he is supposed to be that good would the Hawks ever pony up the money to sign him?
EvilJester99
I don't think the Caps want to pay him. They can't afford the #1 pick anyway so they may trade it. Also Ovechkin, maybe considered to be overrated for the Caps...whatever it is I hope like hell the Hawks can get him. All I have read on him, he will be a freaking stud. IlliniKrush
Ovechkin is almost as much of a guaranteed superstar as their has been in the draft in years (except next year in Crosby). If the Hawks somehow snab the pick, i'll have an Ovechkin jersey within a week. This would be a HUGE step in turning the franchise around. Problem is, it's probly a pipe dream. Plus even if Tallon wants to do it, it has to go through Wirtzy. In a two person draft, you will have to pay a huge price to get in the top 2 picks, i think. Wise Master Buehrle
Something about those Russian players... they're different... Zhamnov and Karpotsev didn't help my opinion either. :\
IlliniKrush
Karpotsev is garbage, worst player to don a Hawk sweater, but Zhamnov is a VERY good hockey player. He is brought into Chicago to do something he wasnt. Zhamnov is the Russian Adam Oates. Alex needs wingers to dish the puck off to, but Zhamnov can set up a play very nicley. Unless it's in the Eastern Conference finals against Tampa, where he was invisible.

Illini, I didn't know you were a big Hawks fan, that's sweet. Maybe we could meet up sometime, whenever the next hockey season is, for a game. Detroit game, perhaps? If the Hawks grabbed Ovechkin, I would go crazy. Ruutu and Ovechkin, holy s*** would that be f***ing awesome. I would definitely make it out to as many games as possible, using my 7 buck student ID. Wow, this is awesome! Go Tallon!
IlliniKrush
CWSGuy, the Hawks are actually my #1 team...no not just hockey, all sports. I am as die hard as they come Let me know when the puck drops on the next NHL season, and we'll hit up some games. BTW, it's 8 bucks with the student ID And to get Ovechkin, i bet the Caps would ask for Ruutu in any offer. Hell, i know i would. Seabrook and a possible exchange of next year's pick probly wouldn't be good enough.

And if he is supposed to be that good would the Hawks ever pony up the money to sign him? I am so cynical about the Hawks that I now feel that everything they do is done with the ulterior motive of screwing the fans just a little bit harder. After all that's gone on with this team in the last 10 years it'll take a lot to convince me otherwise.

Seabrook and a possible exchange of next year's pick probly wouldn't be good enough. The ONLY way I can see this going down is if Washington feels they wouldn't be able to afford Ovechkin, and panics and gives up the first pick for a couple of picks this year and a couple of picks next year (and a prospect or two). I'd make an offer to Washington like this (And I'd give up a s***load to get that pick too. Ovechkin is about as can't miss as Lebron.) 1st round pick this year, 1st round pick next year, Two second rounders this year, a Fourth rounder, and Vorobiev/Radulov. That's a hell of a lot - maybe too much. But for Ovechkin, damn... I wanted to ask you about a couple of things Blackhawk related: First about the third pick. Say we keep it. Who do you like? I personally like Tukonen, the kid from Finland. He seems like he'd be a solid fit, plus a guy who could hang out with Ruutu and hopefully they could gel. As for the rest of the draft, I'm really hoping they package some of the second rounders and get another first rounder, as I'm hearing this draft isn't very deep. Then again, the more picks you have, the more likely you'll get a diamond in the rough, right? Well, probably not with the Hawks... Then, about Vorobiev - when he was drafted, all I heard about the guy was how he was a hard worker willing to fight in corners/stand in front of the net, who had scoring touch and got those garbage/Kyle Calder-like goals. I saw none of that from him in his limited action this year. I really hope it was just him taking it easy on the knee. He probably isn't too fond of Brian Sutter's system either, but he'll have to live with it for AT LEAST one more season. (Sorry about the length of the post.) Oh yeah - for all of you hockey/Blackhawk haters, I've been to three out of the four playoffs in this city (Bulls playoffs in '96, Hawks in '02, Bears in '01. I had tix for Game 5 of the Sox vs. Mariners series, sadly, it never got there... ), and hands-down the Blackhawk vs. Blues atmosphere was the best. A hockey game is easily the best experience to see in person. My hope is that someday, Ruutu and Bell and Arny and Calder and the rest will get a chance at the playoffs. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

A hockey game is easily the best experience to see in person. My hope is that someday, Ruutu and Bell and Arny and Calder and the rest will get a chance at the playoffs. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Well, since this is a two player draft, like i said, getting one of those 2 picks is going to be tough to come by. I like the idea of getting Ovechkin. But giving up as much as you said is A LOT. Especially considering our piss poor record of drafting...if we have very few high picks, we'd HAVE to come through on them. And quite frankly Dumas and Co. couldn't find talent if it was skating in front of them. We need as many picks as we can to just hope to get lucky (hey, remember dan cleary? ty jones? superstars...) I'd be willing to swap picks this year, give them a good prospect and then like a 2 and 3, one this year and one next...and give them the option to swap picks next year with us. I don't know if that's exactly fair, but i don't really wanna go beyond that. This draft isn't very deep. It's not terrible, but next year is much better. God damn draft lottery...can't get one of two guys i want. As far as the pick goes, though we have a lot of depth at D in the minors, i still think we can go with Barker there. He's slated to be a 1/2 dman and i've heard nothing but great things about him. We can always move one of our d prospects in the future anyways. Plus, i like building from the net out, so you can never have too many defensive prospects in my eyes. I think he's the consensus #3 pick from all the scouting stuff i've read. You mentioned vorobiev. Throw Yakubov in there...they were drafted in the same round, same year anyway. Boh of them are pissing me off. They've shown me nothing, especially Yakubov. These guys were supposed to be studs...right now they are barely 4th line material. I'm trying to remain patient, but they've been given every opportunity to succeed and haven't done much with it. There are other guys on this team passing them by, who weren't as big of prospects as they were. But hey, should i be surprised? Hawks draft picks that don't pan out? If you think Hawks in 02 was good (ya i was there for both games), try the Stanley Cup finals against Pittsburgh. Or any Chicago Stadium game that mattered in the early 90's. I was at the Cup finals, and about 200-300 games before it got torn down (we had season tickets til they moved to the UC and my family became so busy we couldn't make nearly all the games). I tend to ignore people who say "hockey is stupid" or "who cares." I feel sorry for them, they don't know what they are missing. Sure now it sucks, but i know what it once was (and what it will be again?) Oh yeah, and the contract given to Sutter is complete bulls***. This team is going nowhere fast with him behind the bench. I was pissed for days after that was announced. He's terrible with young guys, terrible. Here's my article from the all-star break of this year, i'm sure you never saw it but you'll appreciate anything Hawks related: http://www.chicagosportsreview.com/localop...iew.asp?c=94500
CWSGuy406
Did you even get to see a goal scored by the Hawks??? I dont know how you can say it was the best atmospher, the place wasnt even sold out, and the got DOMINATED! I went to one of the games, and they got shutout, and the corners of the UD were empty. Even not sold out, in a town that has lost its love for hockey, it was STILL an awesome atmosphere. Sure, the team sucked the life out of us fans, but from the National Anthem on, I was on the edge of my seat. Say what you want, but a hockey playoff atmosphere = awesome... I couldn't of said it better, you are 100 percent correct, look what Alex did in Philly with Amonte and Roenick as his linemates, and Amonte wasn't that great, if Philly got to the Cup, Alex could of been the high scorer in this years playoffs. EvilJester99
Foley put it the absolute best. He ripped into Karflopsev and it was totally dead on. Karpotsev was the worst piece of s*** to ever wear the Indian Head sweater and its all thanks to Mike SmithOV for bringing him to Chicago.
