Texsox
Viruses? Get a Mac.....We've been running them for 8 years, not a virus yet. How long til I get flamed for this? It is nice to know that the platform has such a small user base that hackers and virus writers won't bother with it. Worry when more people decide to buy a Mac and someone decided to write the first Mac Attack.

CubsSuck1
Can someone explain what an access point is and how does it work?. Would I need one of those.
Wise Master Buehrle
I believe a Wireless Access Point is something you buy and then put it on the middle level of your house, then it shoots the internet freshly upstairs with no lost signals. You do not need this unless the router won't make it to the computer on your second story, which it most certainly will.
Texsox
Great info on networking.
Texsox
Access Point - Device that allows wireless-equipped computers and other devices to communicate with a wired network. Also used to expand the range of a wireless network. Router - A networking device that connects multiple networks together, such as a local network and the Internet. You probably do not need an access point. All you will need is a router between your internet modem and your primary desktop PC and a wireless card for any laptops, other desktops, etc. on the network. The downstairs computer could still be hooked up through Ethernet? I think that would be the case, but I just want to make sure.

Without knowing exactly what is on the downstairs computer, that sounds correct. Remember if you are going to share the printer on the downstairs 'puter it must be on.
