JoshPR
Don Kessinger, One time hero for the crosstown Cubs, became the playing manager but lasted only till Aug 2 as the WhiteSox staggered into fifth place. Tony LaRuss took over when Kessinger retired on Aug2 and was 27-27 as the team finished fifth, 73-87, 14 games behind. July 12 was a depressing night as an anti Disco promotion turned into a near riot and the Sox had to forefit the second game of a twi night doubleheader to the detroit Tigers. Chet Lemon continued his fine all around play with a .318 average, 17 homers and 86 RBI's. Lemon's average was the best for a Sox hitter since Minnie Minoso's .320 in 1954. Lamar Johnson (.309) had 12 homers and 74 RBI's but Jim Morrison obtained from the Phillies on July 10th, hit .275 with 14 homers and 35 RBI's in just 67 games. Eric Soderholm was traded to Texas for Ed Farmer who had 14 saves in 44 games for the Sox. Ken Kravec (15-13), Ross Baumgarten (13-8) and Rich Wortham (14-14) were the top Winners
