On Jan, 19. bill Veeck's second and final tour as owner of the WhiteSox ended with the sale of the club to real estate developer Jerry Reisndorf and television executive Eddie Einhorn.

 

In first place on May 23 with a 22-16 record, the Sox lost three straight in Seattle and began a downward slide that finally placed them fifth, 70-90, 26 games out. Chet Lemon (.292) was the top hitter and Lamar Johnson (.277) had 13 homers and 81 RBI's but no other hitter had more than 59 RBI's. Jim Morrison (.283) and Wayne Nordhagen (.277) had 15 homers apiece. Three rookies started for the Pitchers. Britt Burns (15-13) had a 2.84 ERA (third best in the League) Rich Dotson was 12-10 and Lammar Hoyt was 9-3 despite not making his first start until July. Out of the Bullpen, Ed Farmer (7-9) set a club record with 30 saves and mike proly (5-10) had 8

Sadly, the Reinsdorf Era has failed to produce a World Series winner OR even a World Series appearance - and has only produced 3 playoff appearances in 25 years.

 

What a truly great era it has been. :chair
