I am a huge Paully fan....there are always people discounting him everytime he goes into a slump......It happens in baseball....hopefully this cubs will bring our sox out of this little funk like it seems to do every year....

I'm with ya on that one. Lately the silence from Paulie's biggest detractors has been deafening.

Konerko is a definite Cub killer. Now all the Sox need to complete the cycle is Frank Thomas and Carlos Lee to hit some HR’s.

Players that I consider Cub killers:

Paul Konerko

Jose Valentin

Frank Thomas

Carlos Lee

I am loving Paulie's current production - both his power- and clutch-hitting are way up compared to last year, and his GIDP are way down.

But his range/reflexes are still below average; he still hits into too many DP; it still takes 3 singles to score him from 1st; and then there is the Hip of Doom. Did I mention he makes 17 Mill in 2004 and 2005?

If Sox want to keep Maggs, Sox simply cannot afford both Lee and Konerko if they want to be competitive, and Lee (at his career levels) offers you better overall value than Konerko does since he can play decent OF and can actually run a little.

Also, Lee arguably has a higher upside than Konerko does, so that should count for something - although at this point, I am not so sure Carlos has enough Hitting IQ to be a poor man's Manny Ramirez.

All Paulie needs is to keep this up for another 2 weeks and he might have a shot at being an All-Star - Uribe is fading fast, so Thomas might end up being the only one picked. David Ortiz is the only 1B who is playing better, although that f*** Hattenberg might challege him at some point. Giambi is a sham.....In any case, my point is that if he keeps it up for another few weeks, his TRADE VALUE will be cemented and 2003 will be looked on as a fluke.

I mean, consider who plays LF-RF-DH-1B on some of the contending teams. My god, look at who Texas trotted out there today in the OF - Conti, Delluci and Mench.....:puke

Barring a sudden outburst of generosity from The Jerry, Sox are gonna miss-out on some BIG-TIME (mostly pitching) talent because they don't want (and shouldn't) to give up Reed, Sweeney, Anderson, which teams are gonna demand if they are to pick up a chunk of said big-time pitcher's salary.

Getting rid of Konerko's would be tremendeous in that it would free up the money Sox weren't planning on spending - so in addition to Ortiz, now you might get Glavine as well should Mets fall out of the race.

Of course when I say trade Konerko to free up some space on the payroll, I mean "sweeten up the deal with a prospect or two so the contending team A will actually take all of Kong's money".........I am not interested in salary swaps because the way Konerko is hitting now, he's an ASSET to us as well.

Another benefit of Konerko's departure: Lee and Frank split time at 1B whic would allows the Sox to go after JD Drew who is cheap and VERY good.

I would put Olivos name on that list in the near future. That GS he hit last year was HUGE. :headbang

You think we should trade for JD my agent is Scott Boras Drew, and you dare mention the fact Konerko makes 17 mil over 2 seasons.

Drew is going to be looking for $10mil, minimum next year if he plays the entire season. And some sad team will give him that money, but I gaurantee you its not the White Sox.

I dont know why people have this fascination with Drew, and even more importantly why people think that hes going to be cheap.

Huh?

Drew:

-make 4 Mill this year

-plays outstanding OF

-is a quality baserunner

-is out-producing Konerko while hitting in a pitcher's park

-is a lefty bat - Sox are much weaker against RHP and Konerko is another RH.

-seems pretty damn healthy for a change

So he will walk after this year, I could care less. Konerko will be making nearly 9 Mill next year and he is probably not worth it to the Sox the way he is producing NOW, let alone his career averages, all things considered. Use that money to re-sign Drew if he has a spectacular 2nd half, or better yet, invest it into starting pitching - preferably into a ground-baller, if you know what I mean ;)

I don't understand all your fascination with Andruw Jones...

Thats a different story.

Andruw Jones I would trade for as a long term solution in CF. Ive watched the Sox be victimized by Hunter, it would be nice to see us with that sort of talent in the outfield. I believe Jones will outproduce Drew almost every single year they play, there may be a rare exception where Drew can put it all together, but for the most part Jones will be the player who may make the HOF, where as Drew will always be remembered for turning down his first contract.

Would I swap Konerko for Drew, Id think about it, but I also think the Braves would want money.

There is something to be said for staying with the players who have been part of your team, Konerko has been a Sox, and if we were in the World Series I would prefer Konerko batting to Drew.

As at any given at bat would I prefer Jones over Drew.

It really looks like Konerko wants to win the Crosstown series more than any other player on both sides, just looking at his approach to the plate. He's out there to draw BLOOD! He KNOWS how big this is for Sox fans and is doing everything he can to bring us happiness...doing a darn good job at it as well.

Looks like he's gonna start turning it loose as well. THIS is the Konerko we need to have.

And in any given at bat, I'd like to take the odds.

How do we determine the odds? Probably OBP and Average, both which Drew has upper hand in...

Yeah - Hunter terrorizes us with the glove, but he's not the best at the plate. .289 his career best average, .334 his career best OBP.

Getting back to point: I'd rather have Drew than Jones... :P

Konerko loves to smoke the,  Cubs.  The only thing i'm worried about is when we have to go to,  Wrigley. As we no there's no DH.

That's where we play Konerko twice and Frank once, using the other as a nice pinch-hitter. Konerko has been more of a CubKilla than Frank ever has been, so you gotta go with the right guy here.

But still - Thomas got on base FOUR times today, pitchers don't want to face him. Ill be so friggin happy when we're done with this interleague play, we need to have both Konerko/Thomas in the lineup, especially when Maggs isn't in the lineup.
