JoshPR
In a remarkable turnaround, the rest of the west gained 30 games on the Sox in a single season as the team that won by 20 games the year before finished fifth (74-88), 10 games out of the lead. Despite outstanding performances by several players including Harold Baines, Greg Walker, Greg Luzinski and Ron Kittle the Sox were never seroius contenders during the stretch. Baines hit .304 with 29 homers and 94 RBI's. Walker hit .294 with 24 homers and 75 RBI's, Luzinski batted .238 with 13 homers and 58 RBI's and Kittle Despite hitting only .215 with 100 total hits, slugged 32 homers and drove in 74 runs. One of the pre-season coups was the acquisition of Right hander Tom Seaver from the Mets as compensation for the loss of free agent Dennis Lamp. Seaver led the pitchers with a 15-11 record and a 3.95 ERA. Rich Dotson was 14-15 with 3.59 ERA, best on the team; LaMarr Hoyt was 13-18 and Floyd Bannister 14-
